Multi-Vators[1] are a type of platform appearing in both Super Mario 3D World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Multi-Vators have a number printed on them that indicates the number of players that must be standing on the platform in order for it to move, generally allowing access to a secret. They generally appear in stages with Double Cherries, so that players can use them to activate Multi-Vators. In Super Mario 3D World, additional players can also be used.
In Super Mario 3D World, the first Multi-Vator appears at the end of Double Cherry Pass, and requires four characters to ride it to the level's third Green Star. Another four-character Multi-Vator appears next to the Checkpoint Flag in Beep Block Skyway, leading the player to the level's Stamp. Three Multi-Vators appear in Backstreet Bustle: the two-character one sends the player from the beginning to the area in the middle, the three-character one leads the player to the third Green Star, and the four-character one leads the player to the second Green Star. A two-character Multi-Vator then appears near the end of Cakewalk Flip, and leads to the level's Stamp. A subsequent two-character Multi-Vator then appears not far from the end of Rolling Ride Run, taking the player to the third Green Star.
In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, a single two-character Multi-Vator appears in Double Cherry Spires, where it is used to obtain the Power Star. Multi-Vators are also present throughout Multi-Vator Mayhem, and are primarily used to progress throughout the level. Said Multi-Vators reprise their role in Boo Spotting at Multi-Vator Mayhem.
