Big Whomps[1] are a larger sized species of Whomps. They behave similarly to Big Thwomps, as they can also break through Brick Blocks. Big Whomps first appear in New Super Mario Bros. Here, only one Big Whomp makes an appearance, and it appears in World 3-Castle. It behave identically as normal Whomps, only it can walk around freely instead of staying in the background before falling onto Mario or Luigi. Like with Whomps, a Big Whomp can be instantly defeated from a Ground Pound.

Big Whomps reappear in New Super Mario Bros. 2, where they appear in World Mushroom-Castle and World Star-3. A Big Whomp can only be defeated with a Ground Pound, just as before, and are again able to walk around, but they can also be seen in the background. Once a Big Whomp in the background falls, there can be coins, Roulette Blocks or even a Red Ring behind them.

Big Whomps make a third appearance in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, as enemies and allies to Mario. Big Whomps are Fire and Light-elemental, and they have Fury Stance as their skill as well as Fire Boost as their Awoken Skill. A Big Whomp can also evolve from a regular Whomp. Big Whomp has a max level of 50, and its number listed in the guide is 100.
