- —Queen Bean, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
The Beanstar is the protector of the Beanbean Kingdom that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its 3DS remake. It is a green star that has the ability to grant wishes and fulfill anyone's greatest desires. In order to prevent it from being used for evil, the Beanstar was cast into a deep sleep that could be awoken only by a pure voice. Princess Peach is the only one known to possess such a voice. Cackletta and Fawful, wanting to use the star for evil, head to the Mushroom Kingdom and disguise themselves as goodwill ambassadors from the Beanbean Kingdom. Once there, they steal Peach's voice and go to Beanbean Castle to steal the Beanstar. They lock the castle's inhabitants in the sewers and, still in their disguises, trick Mario and Luigi into releasing the fail-safes for the Beanstar. The Beanstar gets taken by Cackletta and taken to Woohoo Hooniversity, and Mario and Luigi soon follow.
By the time Mario and Luigi arrive at the university, Cackletta has set up a room where three Peach-bots are positioned around the Beanstar. Cackletta presses a remote control that activates the Peach-bots, which are programmed to play the stolen voice. With the robots activated, a high-pitched sound rings out within the room. This causes the Beanstar to become angry and crash into the ground, creating a large hole that sends it and the Peach-bots plummeting. This was caused by the stolen voice actually being from Birdo, not Peach, and thus not being from a pure soul. When the Beanstar recovers from Birdo's voice, a Peach-bot lands next to it and plays the voice, enraging it further and shattering itself into four pieces, which end up scattered across the kingdom.
Bowletta (the form Cackletta takes after possessing Bowser's body), who had just captured Peach, contacts the group, demanding that the Mario Bros. retrieve the Beanstar and bring it to her in exchange for Peach. After the four pieces have been recovered, Prince Peasley proposes that they give Bowletta a Fake Beanstar, which he supplies Mario and Luigi with. They travel to Joke's End with both the fake and genuine Beanstar, but Fawful easily sees that the Beanstar they give is fake and takes the real one. Mario and Luigi soon steal it back after organizing Luigi to wear a dress, disguising as Peach. Believing that the princess that they captured was an impostor, Bowletta and Fawful chase after the "real" princess, leading Luigi to the Beanstar. He soon escapes with the Beanstar and returns to Beanbean Castle. The Beanstar also appears at the start of the staff credits in both games.
