Variant of Magmaargh

Magmaws[1] are a smaller variant of Magmaargh that first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Their name is a pun on "magma" and "maw." A Magmaw resembles a pillar of scarlet lava with yellow eyes at the top and a mouth that is often seen agape, revealing a yellow tongue inside.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Magmaws are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are encountered in the Melty Monster Galaxy only, mainly in The Magnificent Magma Sea. Magmaws live in lava and attack by opening their mouths and passing through asteroids that the player may be on. They seem to be mostly liquid because small objects such as meteors can pass through their body. Much like their larger counterparts, Magmaarghs, they cannot be defeated.

Appearances[edit]

  • Baseline sprite of the Star Pointer in Super Mario Galaxy. marks missions where they are completely absent.
  • Galaxy StarP.png marks missions where they are loaded and may be visible, but cannot be encountered directly.
Worlds Galaxies Missions
World 6 Melty Monster Galaxy The Magnificent Magma Sea A Stroll Down Rolling Lane The Chimp's Bowling Challenge

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]

Magmaws are enemies in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. They are encountered in Magma-River Cruise in New Super Mario Bros. U and in Magmaw River Cruise and The Final Battle in New Super Luigi U, where they come up from the lava, move towards the player, and go back down. Magmaws bounce Nabbit backward, just as other large hazards do to him.
