The Koopa Paratroopa Trio is a group of three blue-shelled Koopa Paratroopas that appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Unlike most other Koopas seen in the games, they wear shades, bearing some resemblance to Shady Paratroopas from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They speak with Cockney-dialect British accents.
Mario and Luigi first encounter the trio after they hit a giant shell block. After some quick arguing, the leader of the Koopa Paratroopa Trio silences them and tells Mario that the Blue Shell he got from the block fits him nicely. The leader teaches the Mario Bros. how to use the Shell Mario field move with a training exercise. After completing the exercise, the Mario Bros. are rewarded with all ten of Toad Town's Attack Pieces for the Special Attack called Yoo Who Cannon.
Later, Mario and Luigi encounter the Koopa Paratroopa Trio again when they use a shell block to hit an Attack Piece Block with the Blue Shell move in the lower eastern portion of Peach's Castle Garden. The block contains seven of the ten Attack Pieces, and as soon as the Mario Bros. obtain them, the trio flies over; the leader claims that the Attack Piece Block was one of the trio's pricier possessions. The leader seemingly acts diplomatic about Mario and Luigi taking the Attack Pieces, even smacking the other two around when they outright demand the pieces back. However, one of them promptly "comes down" with a case of "punks-got-my-7-pieces-itis," and the leader decides the Mario Bros. should cover his "medical expenses" with a payment of 30 coins. As Mario and Luigi discuss the matter, the leader believes he has the pair intimidated, only for the Mario Bros. to reply that 30 coins is not much at all.
Stymied at the lack of fear on display, the leader talks with the other two Paratroopas, with the group wondering if they are celebrities; one of them suggests raising the fee to 300 coins, and the leader balks, thinking that the price is far too high. Mario and Luigi simply pay the fee, shocking the trio when they throw over the bag of coins. Still in disbelief, the leader of the trio accepts the payment, then decides to repay the Mario Bros.' generosity by revealing where the remaining three Attack Pieces are and circling the general locations on the map. As the other two fawn over the coins they received, Mario asks for more details; the leader also reveals that the Attack Piece Blocks are invisible, and even they do not remember the exact locations. He recommends that the Mario Bros. jump around until they find the blocks, then leaves with the others. Finding the last three Attack Pieces rewards Mario and Luigi with Falling Star.
The Koopa Paratroopa Trio is seen with the other citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, trapped in a bubble as a result of the dark power that Dark Bowser has unleashed onto the land, and is freed upon his defeat.
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, in addition to reprising its role in the main story, the Koopa Paratroopa Trio reappears in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode, where the trio appears in two missions. In Friend or Foe?, the three Paratroopas briefly fight with Bowser Jr., thinking that proving tougher than he is might give them leverage over Bowser himself. However, after Bowser Jr. defeats them, the three inform him where Larry and Lemmy were located before leaving, pondering if they might have an opportunity to rescue Bowser Jr. in the future. They later appear in The Three Forgotten Brothers, where they try to get a picture of them ambushing Bowser Jr. and Roy (who were lying around out of boredom) as proof of their loyalty to Fawful; however, the Paratroopas are reminded that Mario and Luigi had long defeated Fawful, and then proceeded to fight Bowser Jr. out of pride. After they are defeated, they join Bowser Jr.'s troop as allies. The mode suggests that the trio chose to speak with an accent, as one of the trio tells the leader that he "thought that the accent was a bad idea at first," and "[the leader] was kind of owning it" during the trio's encounter with Bowser Jr. at Blubble Lake before the fight. The Koopa Paratroopa Trio is a group of flying troopers. While they are weak to pink Shy Guys, Dry Bones, and Spikes as with other Koopa Paratroopas, their Special Skill is instead Super Stomp.
