Big Montgomery is a enlarged Monty Mole who appears as the first mid-boss in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, appearing in Big Montgomery's Fort in World 1. Big Montgomery uses his digging skills, Ground Pounds and Spiked Balls to attack. Big Montgomery later reappears as the mid-boss of World 3 in Big Montgomery's Bubble Fort and World 5 in Big Montgomery's Ice Fort. He has additional abilities and a new attack cycle in each battle.

The stage for this battle is a large woven sheet of brown wool, that forms the platform Yoshi can walk on as well as a background wall.
In Big Montgomery's Fort, Big Montgomery is battled against a large sheet of brown wool suspended in the background, which drapes so far that it is also the platform for the battle. His first attack is to dig into the floor and burrow up into the wall, visible as a large bulge in the fabric. If Yoshi touches the bulge while it is in the ground, Yoshi is bounced high into the air. Big Montgomery tracks Yoshi while inside the wall, albeit loosely. After some time he bursts out of the wall and performs a Ground Pound to hit Yoshi. After landing, he roars then chases Yoshi across the ground with a slow laggy turn. If Yoshi gets hit by Big Montgomery, he is knocked back a sizable distance while Big Montgomery goes back to digging. Thrown yarn balls and shockwaves from the "Power up Ground Pound!" Power Badge at any point during or after Big Montgomery roars cause him to stop chasing Yoshi and go back to digging. He also stops chasing after some time has passed.

Phase One
If Yoshi jumps on Big Montgomery's head, pelts him with sufficient seeds from a watermelon, uses ice breath from an ice watermelon, or fire breath from a fire watermelon, Big Montgomery flips over and gets stuck halfway in the ground. This can happen at any point in his attack cycle, but note that Big Montgomery stops taking damage the second he begins entering the ground. If Yoshi flipped him over by jumping, the resulting bounce is partially fixed. This leaves his weak spot open: the two bandages in an "x" shape on his bottom. Yoshi must ground-pound on these bandages to deal damage; all other attacks are ineffective. Bumping into Big Montgomery while he is in this state does not inflict damage, instead slightly bouncing Yoshi into the air to set up a Ground Pound. Once hit, he flips a full 360 degrees, lands back in the ground, and digs away. Left alone, Big Montgomery will burrow into the ground fully, then repeat his attack.
Big Montgomery dives into the floor of the woven wool sheet, and burrows up into the wall, visible as a large bulge in the fabric. He will burst out of the wall, and try to land on Yoshi. If he misses, he will attempt to chase Yoshi across the floor area of the stage. Yoshi must jump on his head while he is exposed. Doing so will cause Big Montgomery to reveal his weak spot: a big X on his bottom. Yoshi must Ground Pound on this weak spot to end the first phase.

Phase Two
After taking damage once, Big Montgomery adds a new attack to the start of his cycle. He digs into the ground to reach one of the edges of the screen. He pops out holding a blue Spiked Ball over his head. He rears back just far enough to expose his head, then throws it at Yoshi. It rolls along the floor quickly and leaves the screen. Big Montgomery digs into the ground to repeat the wall climb and ground-pound soon after throwing the Spiked Ball, not when it leaves the screen. The Spiked Ball can knocked out of his hands by hitting him with a yarn ball or the shockwaves from the "Power up Ground Pound!" Power Badge. It falls away from the center of the arena, and therefore off the screen. It is also dropped in a similar way if Big Montgomery is flipped over. After getting hit again, the blue spiked ball is replaced by a red Spiked Ball at Yoshi. The red Spiked Ball is thrown up into the air in a high arc, and it bounces along the ground instead of rolling. These bounces reach the top of the screen, and the ball is slow enough that it persists as Big Montgomery tracks Yoshi inside the wall. Once Big Montgomery takes damage for a third time, the battle ends. He bounces into the foreground and out of the course.
Big Montgomery is not happy, and responds by throwing a blue spiked ball at Yoshi. It will roll along the floor, so Yoshi must jump to dodge it. Once Big Montgomery has thrown the blue spiked ball, he will burrow under the wool again, and proceed up the wall in a repetition of his tactic from phase one. As in phase one, he will burst out of the wall and attempt to land on Yoshi. If he misses, again he will chase Yoshi outside of the wool, where Yoshi must jump on his head to again reveal his weak spot. Another ground pound on his bottom ends phase two.

Phase Three
Big Montgomery, Round 2
Big Montgomery will now throw a red spiky ball toward Yoshi, but this one bounces instead of rolling. Yoshi must dodge it by running underneath one of its bounces. Big Montgomery will again dive into the wool, bursting out from the wall. Yoshi must dodge him, jump on his head, then ground pound his weak spot, and the battle is over.

In Big Montgomery's Bubble Fort, Big Montgomery is battled in a very similar arena to the first. This time, the arena is a large sheet of woven pink wool. Big Montgomery now wears a helmet, so jumping over his head does not have any effect. Yoshi can bounce on it to gain some extra height. Big Montgomery's first attack is similar to his one from the previous battle, except that this time, he emerges with a red Spiked Ball on his hands and throws it at Yoshi. He also stands on top of three Monty Moles. Yoshi can swallow the Monty Moles to make yarn balls. Yoshi must shoot one at Big Montgomery to make his Monty Mole tower collapse, revealing his weak spot again. After getting hit once, Big Montgomery will dive into the wool and burrow up the wall. He again bursts out trying to land on Yoshi. This time, however, shockwaves that hurt Yoshi will ripple across the wool when he lands. Yoshi must jump to avoid them. Big Montgomery repeats his first attack, except he throws three blue Spiked Balls instead. After getting hit again, Big Montgomery will again burrow up the wall, but this time he emerges in the center shortly after two Monty Moles burst out from either side of him. Yoshi must dodge the Monty Moles and the shockwaves after Big Montgomery lands. He then repeats his first attack, only with three red Spiked Balls instead.

The second battle against Big Montgomery takes place in a very similar arena to the first. This time, the area comprises a large sheet of woven pink wool.

Big Montgomery is now wearing a helmet, so jumping on his head will not hurt him.
In Big Montgomery's Ice Fort, Big Montgomery is battled in a very different stage to the previous two stages. The floor is made of ice blocks. Yoshi will slide if he tries to walk or run. The background wall of wool is now at an angle, resembling a ski slope. Big Montgomery's first attack is to attack Yoshi from beneath the ice blocks. When he pushes up two ice blocks and he is visible, a ground pound on these ice blocks causes him to reveal his weak spot on his bottom. After getting hit once, Big Montgomery will burrow up to the top of the wool slope and order Monty Moles to roll down the hill. As they roll, they gather fiber and enlarge like snowballs. After all the Monty Moles have rolled off the arena, Big Montgomery will again try to attack Yoshi from beneath the ice blocks. After the second hit, Big Montgomery will again make his way to the top of the hill, this time ordering seven Monty Moles to roll down the hill; first a wave of four, then a wave of three. He will then roll down the hill himself forming a massive snowball for Yoshi to dodge. Instead of reappearing under the ice blocks as previously, he burrows halfway back up the hill, bursts out, and ground pounds the ice blocks himself. This will cause a massive shockwave on either side of him, which will smash Yoshi into the ceiling, causing damage if not avoided.

Phase One
He then chases Yoshi around the stage, and because he has his helmet on, Yoshi can only avoid him and wait. Also, more Monty Moles are rolling down the hill at Yoshi. Once Big Montgomery has crossed the screen two or three times, he will again try to attack Yoshi from under the ice blocks. Yoshi now must ground pound a third time to end the battle.
Big Montgomery burrows along the floor of the arena, and when he emerges his is preparing to fire a red spiky ball at Yoshi. He is stood on top of three Monty Moles. Yoshi can swallow the Monty Moles to make yarn balls if required. Yoshi must shoot a yarn ball at Big Montgomery to make his Monty Mole tower collapse, revealing his weak spot; again, a large X on his bottom.

Phase Two
Similarly to the first battle, Montgomery will dive into the wool and burrow up the wall. He again bursts out trying to land on Yoshi. This time however, shockwaves that hurt Yoshi will ripple across the wool when he lands. Yoshi must jump to avoid them. Big Montgomery will then reappear on top of another Monty Mole tower, but he is now preparing to fire three blue (rolling) spiky balls. Yoshi must Flutter Jump to dodge all three, and fire a yarn ball at Big Montgomery. Again, a ground pound on Big Montgomery's bottom after the tower collapses will finish phase two.

Phase Three
Big Montgomery will again burrow up the wall, but this time he emerges in the centre shortly after two Monty Moles has burst out from either side of him. Yoshi must dodge the Monty Moles, and the shockwaves from Big Montgomery's landing. In this final phase, Big Montgomery will throw three red (bouncing) spiky balls. Yoshi must dodge them, fire a yarn ball at Big Montgomery, and ground pound his bottom to finish the battle.

Big Montgomery's Ice Fort (Level 5-4)
This battle with Big Montgomery takes place in a very different stage to the previous two. The floor now comprises ice blocks, which Yoshi slides on when trying to walk or run. The background wall of wool is now at an angle, creating more of a ski slope.

Phase One
Big Montgomery will attempt to attack Yoshi from beneath the ice blocks. When he pushes up two ice blocks and he is visible, a ground pound on these ice blocks causes him to reveal his weak spot on his bottom.
A ground pound here will engage phase two.

Phase Two
Big Montgomery will burrow up to the top of the wool slope, and order Monty Moles to roll down the hill. As they roll, they gather fibre and enlarge like snowballs. Big Montgomery will again try to attack Yoshi from beneath the ice blocks. Ground pounding the ice he's lifting, then his weak spot to engage phase three.

Phase Three
Big Montgomery will again make his way to the top of the hill, this time ordering seven Monty Moles to roll down the hill; first a wave of four, then a wave of three. He will then roll down the hill himself forming a massive snowball for Yoshi to dodge. Instead to reappearing under the ice blocks as previously, he burrows half way back up the hill, bursts out, and ground pounds the ice blocks himself. This will cause a massive shockwave on either side of him, which will smash Yoshi into the ceiling causing damage, if not avoided.

He then chases Yoshi around the stage, and because he has his helmet on, Yoshi can only avoid him and wait. Meanwhile, more of his minion Monty Moles are rolling down the hill at Yoshi. Both these and Big Montgomery must be avoided.
Once Big Montgomery has crossed the screen two or three times, he will again try to attack Yoshi from under the ice blocks. Ground pounding the ice he's lifting, then his weak spot, will finish the battle.

Kamek, Yoshi's Woolly World

Big Montgomery is a enlarged Monty Mole who appears as the first mid-boss in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, appearing in Big Montgomery's Fort in World 1. Big Montgomery uses his digging skills, Ground Pounds and Spiked Balls to attack. Big Montgomery later reappears as the mid-boss of World 3 in Big Montgomery's Bubble Fort and World 5 in Big Montgomery's Ice Fort. He has additional abilities and a new attack cycle in each battle.

Battles[edit]

Big Montgomery, Round 1[edit]

Big Montgomery about to confront Yoshi for the first time.

Big Montgomery, Round 2[edit]

Big Montgomery's second battle.
“Hrm? This tangle of yarn here looks familiar... ...AH! IT'S A YOSHI! I'm tired of Yoshis ruining my plans! Hey, you! Minion! I need you to stop this Yoshi from getting past here!”
Kamek, Yoshi's Woolly World

Big Montgomery, Round 3[edit]

Big Montgomery's third and final battle.
“You again... Of COURSE it's you again! OK, time to chill out, Yoshi-kins!”
Kamek, Yoshi's Woolly World

Boss Tent[edit]

Big Montgomery, wearing his helmet on the boss tent screen.

All of Big Montgomery's battles appear in the Boss Tent, where he is fought the same way; however, he moves and attacks faster than in the main game.
