- “Ok, guys! All together now! Let's rush him! Chaaaaarge!!!”
- —Shy Squad, Paper Mario
The Shy Squad is General Guy's personal army of Shy Guys in Paper Mario. They are first encountered shortly before the boss battle against General Guy in Shy Guy's Toy Box. The Shy Squad is followed by two battalions: the Stilt Guys and Shy Stacks, before General Guy himself can be battled.
The Shy Squad is similar to the X-Naut squad headed by Lord Crump in that they both appear in a large cluster, they have HP relevant to their numbers, and there is a particular member that trips a lot. Initially consisting of 15 members, the Shy Squad starts with 15 HP, and when Mario and his partners attack the Squad, the number of members decreases with each point of damage dealt, one per HP. The Shy Squad attacks by rushing up to Mario and striking him in quick succession, dealing 1 HP per hit. How many times Mario is attacked depends on how many Shy Guys are left in the Squad, which equals the Squad's remaining HP. With excellent timing, it is possible to defend every attack they do, nullifying damage. When only a few members are left in the Squad, they will flee, to which General Guy scolds them for deserting.
Despite Shy Guys having low, squeaky voices, the Shy Squad always has a high-pitched, feminine shriek.
