History
Super Mario 3D World
In Super Mario 3D World, the mask can be found after defeating certain Goombas, or in the right statue near a set of Chargin' Chucks in World 5-1. Like several objects in the game, the Goomba Mask is worn over the player's body. Upon wearing it, Goombas, Galoombas and Mini Goombas do not recognize the player and will not attack, but other enemies like Koopa Troopas and Chargin' Chucks will still actively chase the player. Also, Spotlights do not react if the player is within sight. However, contact with enemies still causes damage, removing the mask. When the player jumps, the same sound effect plays as when a Goomba jumps. When the player crouch-walks while wearing the mask, the Goombas' walking sound is used. Power-ups cannot be used in this state, although Peach's float can still be used.
Super Mario Maker 2
In Super Mario Maker 2, knocking on a Warp Door in the Super Mario 3D World style may cause Weird Mario to appear while wearing a Goomba Mask. It was later added as a wearable object exclusive to the Super Mario 3D World style in the version 3.0.0 update released on April 22, 2020, allowing the player to avoid getting noticed by all enemies, unlike in Super Mario 3D World.[2]
