Oho Jee, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

The Oho Jees are natives of the Oho Oasis in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. When spoken to, Oho Jees use broken grammar and say bizarre things. There are two varieties on the main island: red ones and blue ones. Two smaller islands south of Oho Oasis house a green and a purple Oho Jee, both of which have afros. Their name comes from oho (an onomatopoeia for laughter), as well as sounding like "Oh jeez", an expression used to show surprise or frustration. One of the Oho Jees within a temple expresses confusion at this designation, suggesting that they do not accept it.

According to a boombox recorded by an expedition group, one of the members was attacked by an Oho Jee, and was then transformed into one. However, they are not enemies by nature, and will not attack unprovoked. If the Red or Blue Oho Jees are hurt by Firebrand or Thunderhand respectively, they will become wild and face Mario and Luigi in battle.

At the beginning of a battle, Oho Jees will have 75 HP, and their only attack is spinning wildly at the brothers, which can be countered by jumping on them. Blue Oho Jees will spin quickly in a diamond pattern, while Red Oho Jee will spin slowly in a circle. Red Oho Jees are healed by Firebrand and are weak to Thunderhand, while Blue Oho Jees are healed by Thunderhand and hurt by Firebrand. The Oho Jees often act strangely in battle: they may run away and, if they are unable to escape, come back saying "I no believe!"; they may hum a song, which slightly heals the brothers; they may say something nonsensical, which wastes a turn for them; and if they are healed too much, they will inflate like a balloon before blasting off like a rocket, causing the battle to end. After their defeat, they will lay on the ground for bit only to jump back up and say a random quip.

In the Minion Quest mode of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, two orange and green Oho Jees participate in Wendy's "Cutie Battle Contest" as part of a team with the three recurring Gwarhar Lagoon residents known as "The Insane Sisters." Both of them have afros.

In the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, orange and blue Oho Jees make appearances as enemies.[1] An orange Oho Jee blocks Morton from collecting the Omega-onion, so Bowser Jr. fights multiple Oho Jees to obtain it. The Oho Jee is also briefly mistaken to be the Omega-onion.

Trivia

  • It appears that Oho Jees shed their skin, as the Oho Jee Wear is made from their molted skins.
  • Blazing Shroobs from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Calorites from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story are enemies similarly to Oho Jees that have rapidly moving legs.
  • Oho Jees have legs in the original version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga while in all other media, (besides their defeated sprite in the remake which is an altered version of the original) they only have feet.
  • Also, Oho Jees wear brown shoes like the ones most Toads wear in their Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions artwork but do no such thing in any other media.
