Template:MoreImages Template:Articleabout Template:Location-infobox The Mushroom Kingdom is one of the largest kingdoms in the Mushroom World. It is under the rule of Princess Peach Toadstool. Additionally, the Mushroom Kingdom shares its southwestern border with the Beanbean Kingdom. There is disparity between the kingdom's multiple appearances regarding the exact layout of certain towns and locations. However, the Mushroom Kingdom comprises many recurring landscapes, such as plains, deserts, islands, forests, mountains, snowy areas, volcanoes and others.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario Bros.
King Bowser leads his attack in the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario Bros.. Using Dark Koopa magic, Bowser transforms many of the kingdom's citizens into blocks, Mushrooms, and other objects. When Bowser discovers that Princess Toadstool had the power to undo his curse on the citizens, however, he captures her and seven of her closest Mushroom Retainers, imprisoning them in eight castles scattered across the kingdom.
Mario and Luigi comes to the kingdom and travel to each of the castles, finding a False Bowser guarding each. Finally, in the eighth castle, they defeat Bowser and rescue the Princess.
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Bowser again invades the Mushroom Kingdom using Dark Koopa magic, kidnapping the Toads once more in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. He also kidnaps Princess Toadstool and hides her inside one of his castles. Mario and Luigi are able to rescue Toadstool by traveling through various lands of the Mushroom Kingdom, while defeating all of the Koopa Troop, the False Bowsers and Bowser three times.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Bowser invades Mushroom Kingdom with the help of the Koopalings and Boom Boom in Super Mario Bros. 3. Luring Mario and Luigi away from the Mushroom Kingdom to go to the nearby kingdom, the Grass Land, Bowser kidnaps the Princess and takes her to his home in Dark Land. After saving Pipe Maze from Ludwig von Koopa, the Mario Bros. defeats the Koopa Troop and saves Princess Toadstool.
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS
Princess Peach had sent Mario an invitation, but the Koopa Troop invades Princess Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64. Bowser seals the Power Stars that provide energy to the castle. Each Star is hidden in a location or a boss. The majority of the Power Stars are hidden in worlds accessible through paintings. Mario eventually obtains all 120 Power Stars and rescues Princess Peach. Yoshi can be found on the roof and he could give Mario 100 1-Ups and leave.
Super Mario 64 DS retells this story, but with additional Power Stars in varying locations and the inclusion of Yoshi, Luigi and Wario as playable characters.
New Super Mario Bros.
Mario (or Luigi) and Princess Peach are walking together near Princess Peach's Castle, during New Super Mario Bros., when a thundercloud appears above castle and strikes the castle with lightning. Mario or Luigi went to investigate, and while he is there, Bowser Jr. sneaks behind a bush and kidnaps Peach. Mario and Luigi follow, and Bowser Jr. drags her through seven worlds of Mushroom Kingdom. The Mario Bros. manage to defeat Bowser and his son, and they save Princess Peach.
Super Mario Galaxy
The Mushroom Kingdom celebrates the Star Festival, where residents collect Star Bits in Super Mario Galaxy. Princess Peach (with Luma) and her two Toad Guards watched over the Mushroom Kingdom as everyone celebrated the festival. Soon, the Mushroom Kingdom is attacked by Bowser and his Airships. Using a large UFO, Bowser lifts Peach's Castle (with Peach and her Toads still inside) into space.
Bowser's plans to create a galactic empire to rule all of the universe. Mario, however, also finds himself in space, and with the help of Rosalina and the Lumas, he is able to reach the center of the universe, where Bowser's planet is being created. Mario defeats Bowser, saves Princess Peach and was able to stop him from taking over the universe.
The explosion of Bowser's Planet creates a Black Hole which sucks every planet of the galaxy in and destroys everything. As Rosalina explains, however, the universe is just being recreated. Soon, Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser wakes near Princess Peach's Castle, and Mario then realizes that the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as every planet in the galaxy, has been recreated.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
At Peach's Castle, as Mario, Luigi and their friends are celebrating Princess Peach's birthday in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a huge cake slides in. Immediately, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings pop out and throw the giant cake on top of Peach, trapping her inside. The Koopalings jump into their Airship with the cake and Princess Peach inside and flew away. Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad then chased them through various different lands of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
As to Super Mario Galaxy, Mushroom Kingdom celebrates the Star Festival in Super Mario Galaxy 2. As Mario is on his way to Peach's Castle, he finds Luma on the grass. He seems to like Mario and jumps into his hat. At Toad Town, Mario discovers a large Bowser attacking the castle. He kidnaps Princess Peach and takes her away, hoping for her to witness his creation of his new galaxy in the center of the universe and bake him some cake. Mario heads to Peach's castle where he finds two Lumas. After seeing Baby Luma with Mario, they offer to aid Mario in his search for Power Stars. One of the Lumas transforms into a Launch Star, which sends Mario away from Mushroom World to the Sky Station Galaxy and begins his adventure.
After Mario and his companions save the galaxies, they (with Lubba) return to the Mushroom Kingdom, as a huge cake with Star Bits and Yoshi Fruits on it can be seen in front of Peach's Castle during the game's ending credits.
Super Mario 3D Land
A Tail Tree stands outside Princess Peach's Castle during Super Mario 3D Land. One night, a huge storm blows all of the leaves off. The next morning, Princess Peach goes outside to see if the tree is okay, but during her inspection, Bowser and the Koopa Troop kidnaps her.
Later on, Mario and three Toads (Red, Yellow, and Blue) go looking for the princess. Eventually, they discover that she is missing and the Super Leaves are gone too. Yellow Toad notices a hovering letter near the tree, and the group of four goes to investigate. Mario grabs and opens the letter, and a picture of Bowser holding Princess Peach with Super Leaves flying in the background pops out. The message shocks the three Toads and Mario, and, immediately, Mario and the three Toads run to save Princess Peach through various worlds of Mushroom World.
Mario and the three Toads find Princess Peach and, using their Tanooki powers, bring her back home.
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Mario, Luigi, and Peach are enjoying their time of peace in Mushroom Kingdom, at Princess Peach's Castle during New Super Mario Bros. 2. The Mario Bros. fly off in their Racccoon/Fox form, collecting Coins in the sky. When suddenly, the Koopalings has kidnapped Peach, Mario and Luigi runs off to save the princess in various worlds of Mushroom World.
They manage to defeat Bowser, the Koopalings, and save Princess Peach. They bring her back to the Mushroom Kingdom (in a similar fashion to Super Mario 3D Land).
New Super Mario Bros. U
Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad and Yellow Toad are with Princess Peach in her castle having dinner together in New Super Mario Bros. U. Bowser suddenly arrives in his Airship, with a giant mechanical fist that smashes and launches the brothers and the Toads towards the Acorn Plains. Mario and his friends crash into the Acorn Tree, launching Super Acorns through the area. Mario and co. then tumble out of the tree, passing a Bubble Baby Yoshi and Balloon Baby Yoshi while they're at it. They look into the horizon to see Bowser beginning a siege on Princess Peach's Castle, setting the Mario Bros. and the Toads to go on an adventure and save Princess Peach.
After reaching Peach's Castle, Mario defeats Bowser and sees Peach in a tower. She is locked inside. Then Bowser returns, and Mario must use Bowser Jr.'s Koopa Clown Car to trounce him. Bowser gets defeated and Bowser Jr. frighteningly runs away. Mario gets to Peach and bows down to her; he is then kissed on the forehead by her.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, the Mushroom Kingdom, most commonly referred to as the "Mushroom Land", is a central plot point in the show; the Mushroom Kingdom is apparently under the influence of King Koopa in the show. Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool spend the bulk of the series' episodes searching for someone or something that could free it from his grasp. King Koopa's hold on the Mushroom Kingdom is relinquished in one of the last episodes of the show, "Flatbush Koopa".
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 seemed to have combined both the Mushroom Kingdom and Grass Land into one location.
Dr. Mario series
Dr. Mario
An epidemic breaks out among its citizens in Dr. Mario. The microscopic viruses are responsible for the infection. In response, Mario assumes the title Dr. Mario and works to develop a cure: the Megavitamin.
Dr. Mario 64
While Dr. Mario had contains the Viruses in Dr. Mario 64, he has not eradicated them. When Wario decides to steal Dr. Mario's remaining samples, the kingdom is threatened by another potential infection. After chasing Wario, Dr. Mario's recaptures the vials and contains the virus.
Mario Kart series
Races in the Mario Kart series take place in various locations in Mushroom Kingdom and possibly other places in the Mario Kart series.
Wario's Woods
In the events of Wario's Woods, Toad saves the Mushroom Kingdom from Wario's capture. Wario takes over the Mushroom Kingdom starting from capturing a once peaceful forest. To ensure that nobody will stop him, Wario sets up many of his minions to serve as mini-bosses. His plan did not go too successful as his minions are defeated by Toad (with the help of his friends Birdo and Wanda). In the SNES version of the game, Toad went to destroying Wario's Castle by throwing a bomb at it.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
The Mushroom Kingdom is both a level and a world in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The Mushroom Kingdom is the name of a single town in the game, as well as World 1, which consists of the levels in close proximity to the town. The levels include Mario's Pad, the home of Mario, Mushroom Way, a passage blocked by Bowser's forces, the Mushroom Kingdom town itself, and Bandit's Way, a den for thieves such as Croco.
Mario Party series
Mario Party
What started out as a personal competition between Mario and his friends at a party evolved into a full-scale adventure in Mario Party. When Mario invited a few of his closest friends to a party, an argument erupted over which of them was the Superstar of the Mushroom World. Toad decides that it would best be resolved through a contest to solve the many problems. Several of these problems belonged to the Mushroom Kingdom.
Mario Party 2
Mario gathers his friends together to create a theme park for them to enjoy in Mario Party 2. After viewing their work, the plumber named it Mario Land, after himself. Wario shows his feelings, destroying the front sign and replacing it with one that read "Wario Land." The tranquility breaks and a fight erupts over the name. They were so absorbed by the argument that Bowser invades the land.
Witnessing this, Toad rushed towards the main gate and proposed that the gathering of heroes put aside their arguments and name the world after the one who defeated Bowser. The group is able to drive Bowser out of the world, but not before Bowser establishs a stronghold known was Bowser Land. Toad names the land after the hero or heroine who defeats Bowser.
Mario Party 3
One Millennium Star is born every one thousand years, and this particular star lands in the Mushroom Kingdom in Mario Party 3. Once there, the usual group of party-goers plus Daisy and Waluigi fights over it. Eventually, the Millennium Star reveals itself to be a fake. He deceives them so that the true star could observe their true natures and accurately grant the title of Millennium Star to one of them.
Mario Party 4
For a group celebration of Peach and her closest friends' birthdays in Mario Party 4, the Party Cube came to Princess Peach’s Castle. Decked out for a party, a band of hosts presents the group with many challenges. After the party, the Party Cube flies away from the hosts and disappears.
Mario Golf series
Golf tournaments are held in Mushroom Kingdom during the Mario Golf series, where characters can compete.
Mario Tennis series
Just as golf, tennis matches are held in courts of Mushroom Kingdom during the Mario Tennis series.
Paper Mario series
Paper Mario
Tired of his wishes being ignored by the seven Star Spirits, Bowser attacks Star Haven, where their source of power, the Star Rod is kept during Paper Mario. He steals the Star Rod and turns the Star Spirits into cards. Bowser then uses his new powers to transport his castle directly beneath Princess Peach’s Castle and elevated both into the sky. Bowser thwarts Mario’s attempts to rescue Princess Peach by turning himself invincible.
After many fights with Bowser’s force, Mario and a new group of allies are able to rescue all of the Star Spirits. After the fight with Bowser, Mario destroys Bowser’s castle, sending Bowser and Kammy to the ground below. Using the rod, the Star Spirits replace Princess Peach’s Castle in Toad Town.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Princess Peach and Toadsworth decide to make a visit to Rogueport while on vacation in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. While the idea appeared dangerous, as long as Toadsworth kept an eye on Peach, she is safe from trouble from the thugs of the town. However, when Peach decided to sneak away for a bit of freedom, she is captured by the X-Nauts. Rumors said that Peach has found the Magical Map, an object the X-Nauts has long sought. Peach has previously sent the map to Mario, requesting that he come and help her look for the treasure marked.
When Mario arrives in Rogueport, he discovered what happened to Peach from various eye-witnesses. With the map and the help of Goombella and Professor Frankly, Mario discovers the Thousand-Year Door and realizes that to find Princess Peach, he would need to track seven keys to the door. These keys, the Crystal Stars, are the treasures of the Magical Map. After many adventures and gaining new partners, Mario learns the full story of the X-Nauts. Sir Grodus, their leader, has long planned to unlock the Thousand-Year and use the "cataclysm" locked inside to take over the world. Still, this does not explain why they continue to hold Peach after questioning. Tricking Mario into opening the door, Sir Grodus reaches the cataclysm moments before the plumber and his friends. The cataclysm that has been sealed away by the Crystal Shards is in actuality the Shadow Queen. She returns to her former self by possessing Princess Peach. Defeating Grodus, she turns her anger to Mario and the rest of the world. Mario is able to defeat her after the Crystal Stars gathered positive energy from their hidden locations. The light that results frees Peach momentarily, and she charged up Mario and his partners with her remaining power.
Super Paper Mario

In this game, the Mushroom Kingdom is shown only at the start of the game as the game's setting takes place in Flipside.
Luigi's Mansion
When Mario was lured to a remote mansion filled with ghosts located in Boo Woods, King Boo kidnapped the plumber. With Luigi off saving his brother, the fate of the Mushroom Kingdom was questionable. Princess Peach was frantic as she feared for the worst. With the help of Professor Elvin Gadd, Luigi was able to undo the damage caused by King Boo's gang and eventually corner King Boo. However, the king counterattacked by sucking Luigi into a world beyond a painting of Bowser. Much like the paintings that Bowser had placed in Peach's castle, the world beyond was of questionable integrity. King Boo appeared to have possessed Bowser. However, Bowser had not died, and thus King Boo was operating a False Bowser. Luigi and E. Gadd were able to trap King Boo and his False Bowser inside a painting. Mario was safely rescued and the brothers to their home, ensuring the continued protection of the kingdom. E. Gadd went on to benefit the world with his inventions.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Template:Beanmap One day, Princess Peach met with a Goodwill Ambassador from the Beanbean Kingdom at her castle. Much to the kingdom's surprise, the meeting was really an extensive plot to steal Princess Peach's voice. The perpetrator was an evil witch named Cackletta with whom the Beanbean Kingdom had been grappling with for years. Luckily, this attack had been forseen by Prince Peasley of the Beanbean Kingdom. He wasted no time in alerting Peach of the situation. A Birdo agreed to disguise herself as the princess and stand in for her on the day of the attack. The Birdo's voice was stolen by the witch and replaced with an explosive vocabulary. Every time she spoke, the Birdo would cause explosions in the castle. Bowser arrived shortly after the attack to kidnap Peach, but finding the disguised Birdo, he instead lent Mario and Luigi a hand in defeating Cackletta. The trio set off for the Beanbean Kingdom.
Yet, Peach could not travel to the Beanbean Kingdom to notify her heroes of her true situation due to Cackletta's invasion. As soon as she received word of Cackletta's death at the hands of the Mario Bros., she rushed out to greet them. Almost immediately, she was kidnapped by Bowletta, who was truly Bowser possessed by Cackletta's disembodied spirit. After a long battle in the Beanbean Kingdom, the brothers were able to save the Peach and defeat Cackletta by destroying her spirit. Bowser was saved in the process.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Years ago, the Mushroom Kingdom was invaded and conquered by a race of aliens known as the Shroobs. Growing tired of life on the toxic, barren Planet Shroob, they discovered the Mushroom Kingdom, and set out to conquer it using their expansive military.
One of the first targets was Princess Peach's Castle. The Shroobs began to set base there after a brief encounter with the future Princess Peach, who had traveled back in time via a Time Machine. The princess trapped the Elder Princess Shroob inside the Cobalt Star, which powered the machine. Peach then destroyed the artifact and spread the Cobalt Star Shards throughout the kingdom. The rest of the invasion and the search for the Shards was carried out by Princess Shroob, the elder's younger sister.
As the Shroob invasion spread, the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom fled, leaving entire towns, such as Toad Town, nearly desolate. A number of unfortunate Toads were captured and brought to Toadwood Forest, where their vim was sucked out of them to create fuel for the Shroobs' war fleet of Shroob UFOs.
The Mushroom Kingdom was saved by Mario and Luigi, then Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, and their future selves. During the storm of Shroob Castle, previously known as Princess Peach's Castle, the younger Princess Shroob was defeated. The Elder Princess Shroob escaped from the Cobalt Star as a result of the reunion of the Shards, was defeated, and then was taken to the future in the form of a purple Mushroom. A stream of baby tears came through the Time Holes from the future and destroyed the handywork of the Shroobs, returning the kingdom and its inhabitants to their previous state. However, the physical destruction remained. The kingdom began reconstruction, finishing at a later date.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong series
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Deciding to cash-in on his popular image, Mario created the Mario Toy Company and released its first product, the Mini Mario. This wind up toy proved to be phenomenally successful, and demanded an overwhelming supply. As the company prepared a new shipment, Donkey Kong invaded the company factory and stole countless Mini Marios. Mario ran after Donkey Kong and eventually reclaimed the entire shipment.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
The beginning of this game is similar to its prequel's - a theme park called Super Mini Mario World opened in the Mushroom Kingdom sells Mini Marios. When Donkey Kong arrived, he saw Pauline and fell in love with her. When Mario offered her a Mini Mario, Donkey Kong offered her a Mini Donkey Kong out of love. But Pauline chose the Mini-Mario, so Donkey Kong started to throw a tantrum. He stole Pauline out of anger so Mario couldn't be with her. Luckily, the Mini Marios Donkey Kong broke out of their containers served as allies to Mario. In the end, Donkey Kong and Mario are friends again, and continue with their lives.
Super Smash Bros. series
The Mushroom Kingdom has inspired several stages in the Super Smash Bros. series. Two of these, both called Mushroom Kingdom, are based off of the kingdom as it appeared in the original Super Mario Bros., with Warp Pipes and POW Blocks. Despite its name, Mushroom Kingdom II from Super Smash Bros. Melee is based off of Subcon as it appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2. All three of these stages feature 3-D versions of stage elements, such as blocks and platforms, while any characters are portrayed as flat 2-D images.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Adventure Mode's first stage is also called Mushroom Kingdom, where players had to get past Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and a team of Yoshis to reach Princess Peach's Castle. Some Toads also make an appearance.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features Mushroomy Kingdom. This stage indicates that in the alternate world of Super Smash Bros., the Mushroom Kingdom has become run down as a result of the epic battles that have been fought there and the fact that specific area of the kingdom has gotten old and worn down. Familiar structures are now ruins and the entire world appears as a barren desert. The stage depicts replicated versions of either World 1-1 and World 1-2.
General Information
Government
The Mushroom Kingdom is a monarchy ruled by the Toadstool family. Currently, the ruler in power is Princess Peach. While King Toadstool's exact role in the government has never been confirmed, he has seemingly ceased ruling after Bowser's first direct attack on the kingdom. However, the fact that Princess Peach is not the queen may indicate that he still has political presence.
The Mushroom Chancellor remains in office for many years, allowing the royals to call on him for advice. In addition to his duties as adviser, the Chancellor may temporarily rule when the royal in power is to be away for an extended period of time. Princess Peach also employs many guards and attendants.
The kingdom's capital is Toad Town. Here, Princess Peach resides in a castle that is commonly referred to as Princess Peach's Castle. From here, Princess Peach takes care of her political duties, such as speaking with foreign ambassadors and holding parties. This building doubles as The castle interior and exterior have changed over time to reflect current needs.
Princess Peach keeps a hoard of Toads guards at her castle, but there is no evidence of an extensive military controlled by the Toadstools. During the Shroob Invasion, the Toadstools kept an extensive military, but it was quickly wiped out. Whether this organization has resumed is unknown. However, Mario, Luigi, and many other heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom have fought to save it and its princess countless times before. The Mario Bros. show no signs of stopping this trend. Currently, Princess Peach staffs and supports Toad Houses in major towns near Toad Town.
Demographics
The Mushroom Kingdom's population is very vast, consisting of hundreds of species. Most prevalent are Toads, Koopa Troopas, Goombas, Yoshis, and Boos. Even though Princess Peach is human, there are very few humans living in the Mushroom Kingdom.
While racism is not much of a problem in the kingdom, species tend to segregate themselves into different areas. For example, Toad Town's population is almost entirely made up of Toads, while Shiver City is inhabited by many Bumpties.
Species of the Mushroom Kingdom
Currency

The Mushroom Kingdom primarily uses Coins for tender, referred to as Mushroom Coins in the Beanbean Kingdom. Coming in five varieties (Gold Coin, Red Coin (worth two coins), Blue Coin (worth five coins), 10 Gold Coin (worth 10 coins), and 100 Gold Coin (worth 100 coins)), Coins are often found scattered throughout the Kingdom for unknown reasons. The coin has undergone several changes throughout the years; the three most famous Coin designs are the blank design, the star design, and the "1" design.
Compared to Beanbean Coins from the Beanbean Kingdom, Coins are of little worth (their exact comparative worth is constantly fluctuating). It is unknown if this signifies a good economy in Beanbean or a bad one in the Mushroom Kingdom. It could also simply mean that the Mushroom Kingdom uses very small units of measurement compared to the Beanbean Kingdom in terms of currency.
Additionally, the gold system featured in Luigi's Mansion may additionally be used in the Mushroom Kingdom, although it is unconfirmed.

- The Mushroom Kingdom is almost always referred to with the word "the" in front of its name, although Super Mario RPG constantly referred to it simply as "Mushroom Kingdom" due to the fact that it was merely a small town area in that game.
