The Black Jibberjay is the leader of the Jibberjays who challenges Mario twice to a flying race in Super Mario Galaxy 2. He first appears in the Wild Glide Galaxy where he, along with his Jibberjay followers challenge Mario and Fluzzard to a race to prove who is the fastest, luckily Mario and Fluzzard win the race and the Black Jibberjay is so impressed that he gives Mario a Power Star as a trophy and declares him the new leader of the Jibberjays. He appears again in the Fleet Glide Galaxy with the same role and dialogue as last time, but instead of racing alongside his followers he races by himself.
Trivia
- His habit of wanting to race Mario is similar to previous racing characters, such as: Koopa the Quick, Il Piantissimo and Spooky Speedster.
- He is also very similar to Boshi from Super Mario RPG, who was also the boss of the Yoshis because of his racing victories, they both also lost to Mario and his riding companions and they both lost their status as leader, Black Jibberjay having lost his to Mario and Fluzzard, and Boshi having lost his to Mario and Yoshi.
