First appearance | Yoshi's Woolly World (2015) |
Latest appearance | Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World (2017) |
Variant of | Huffin Puffin |
Fluffin' Puffins are allies exclusive to Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World. They are similar to Huffin Puffins from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, except the adult is defeated when jumped on, and the chicks are limbless and have green spots to resemble Yoshi Eggs. The chicks do not move after the adult is defeated. When thrown, the chicks fly in a straight path similar to a yarn ball and leave a path of fluff behind them, which acts as a platform, where Huffin Puffin chicks would return to Yoshi in a boomerang motion. Fluffin' Puffin chicks vanish after flying for too long or when they collide with a wall or enemy, but not if they collide against a Winged Cloud. Fluffin' Puffin chicks can be encountered separated from their parents in crowds at certain nests. If Yoshi enters these nests, Fluffin' Puffin chicks fill his inventory, deleting any yarn balls Yoshi has in the process.
The fluff platforms they create can act as ramps, but are unable to act as walls except in extraneous circumstances. They disintegrate after a short time, and they will do so faster in any case where Yoshi would have four platforms out at the same time. They disappear starting at the point they were created and progress to the ending point. Yoshi can ground pound on any spot on the platform to break through it. They are also weaker than yarn balls, as they cannot be used to defeat Piranha Plants or Wild Ptooie Piranhas, but can be used to attack other enemies such as Koopa Paratroopas. At the Goal Ring, any remaining Fluffin' Puffin chicks turn into beads. Fluffin' Puffins only appear in the level Fluffin' Puffin Babysitting. Collecting all of the Wonder Wools in this level unlocks Fluffin' Puffin Yoshi.
In Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Yoshi cannot carry Fluffin' Puffins if the Poochy Pups are out, though in turn Fluffin' Puffin chicks in nests cannot replace the Poochy Pups. The Poochy Pups take on the fluff trail creating properties of Fluffin' Puffins while in Fluffin' Puffin Babysiitting.
