Super Kong
Template:Character-infobox Template:Quote2 The Super Kongs are clones of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, and represent them during the Super Guide mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns. Much like the Super Guides in other Super Mario series installments, the Super Kongs assist the player with navigating levels, and feature slightly modified designs of their normal counterparts.[1]
History
Donkey Kong Country Returns / Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
In Donkey Kong Country Returns, if the player loses eight lives in a level (or five in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D), the Tutorial Pig appears and offers to activate the Super Guide. If the player selects yes, then Super Kong appears and completes the level for him.
Any items collected by Super Kong, such as bananas, Banana Coins, or even Puzzle Pieces, are not kept by the Kongs themselves. Super Kong always goes on a predetermined path to the end goal, meaning he does not access hidden areas or any bonus rooms.
While Super Kong can be activated during the final boss level, Tiki Tong Terror, the end cutscene still shows the normal Kongs as opposed to the Super Kongs, who appear in most other cutscenes.
It has been mentioned that the choice for the Super Kongs' attire to be blue instead of red was caused by the sunset levels of the game, which have Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in silhouette and their attires being the only aspects of their designs being shown in those levels. Therefore, this aesthetic required the Super Kongs' respective attires to be recolored to differentiate them.[citation needed]
Super Smash Bros. series
A white-furred variant of Donkey Kong appears as a playable skin throughout the Super Smash Bros. series, although it predates Super Kong and is not based upon him. The only time when this costume is used as an explicit reference to Super Kong is in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where Professor Chops' spirit battle involves fighting a white-furred Donkey Kong, alluding to the connection between Professor Chops and Super Kong in Donkey Kong Country Returns.
