Mario Party Superstars:

Mushroom Mix-Up is a 4-Player minigame found in Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars.

Gameplay

Players have to stay on the same-colored Mushroom Platforms as Toad's flag. The other colored Mushroom Platforms then slowly sink. Falling into the water results in a Blooper appearing and carrying the player away. Players can ground-pound their opponents to stun them temporarily. The longer the players stay in the minigame, the faster the colored Mushroom Platforms sink down as Toad keeps changing his flag. The last player standing wins the minigame. If all the players fall into the water, the minigame ends in a draw.

The minigame can be purchased from the Mini-Game House for 50 coins.

The minigame Hexagon Heat from Mario Party 2 follows the same rules.

In Mario Party Superstars, the Mushroom Platforms all bear patterns on them to make them more easily distinguishable, like in Hexagon Heat in Mario Party: The Top 100. The water below now shows reefs on the side and a large abyss in the center. Also, if two or more players stay in the minigame for a long time, a 30-second timer pops up,[1] similarly to Shy Guy Says. If that timer runs out, any player left standing wins. If all of the players on the stage fall into the water, the player who fell in last is declared the winner. Toad reacts depending on the result: If a player wins through normal means, he claps; if a player wins after falling into the water, he reacts in shock; and if the minigame ends in a draw, he shrugs in dismay.

Trivia

  • If the minigame lasts too long, the movement of Mushroom Platforms gets so fast that players can survive by just jumping at the right time, or even without jumping at all.[3]
    • In the Japanese version of the game, if the remaining players keep ground-pounding, the Mushroom Platforms move so fast that even doing nothing makes the players survive.
  • If one player manages to reach a platform while the other platforms sink and stomps on another player in the process, causing them to fall into the water, the minigame ends as usual, but the eliminated player may be seen remaining in the water without the Blooper appearing.[citation needed]
