A Lava Bud is the smaller stem of a Lava Piranha. Two of them, along with Lava Piranha, are the bosses of Chapter 5 in Paper Mario. Both of them branch out of the Lava Piranha while fighting Mario and his group. During the fight, Lava Buds fire Petit Piranhas, and the spores then immediately attack. As long as the Lava Piranha itself remains undefeated, the Lava Buds do not completely wither, and they eventually regenerate. A Water Block renders Mario near-immune to their attacks.
