Sebastian Maniscalco (born July 8, 1973 in Arlington Heights, Illinois) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He is best known for his comedic stand-up routines, and has released five comedy specials. He is also known for his acting roles in Green Book, and he played Joe Gallo in The Irishman.

In a YouTube podcast uploaded on August 5, 2021, Maniscalco mentioned that he would be providing the voice of "Spike, [the Mario brothers'] boss" in The Super Mario Bros. Movie co-produced by Illumination.[1] This was announced officially in a Nintendo Direct on September 23, 2021.[2] During an interview in Live with Kelly and Mark, Maniscalco stated that he initially auditioned for the role of Mario, but was ultimately given the role of Spike.[3]

In an interview with Screen Rant, when asked if he would be reprising his role as Spike in the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Maniscalco stated that he had not yet received a call, and recalled a time when he was at Universal Studios with his children and wanted to show them merchandise of Spike, only to find out that there were not any of him, leading him to believe that his character may not be returning.[4]
