History
New Super Mario Bros.
Sinking and Rising Mushrooms first appear in New Super Mario Bros. They are platforms that, when stood on, either rise or fall a certain length depending on their color; yellow-and-orange ones fall, whereas orange-and-red ones rise. They appear only in World 5-4, though a mechanical object that acts identically appears during the fight against Mega Goomba.
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Sinking and Rising Mushrooms are objects in New Super Mario Bros. 2. They show the same behavior as in New Super Mario Bros., albeit with different color schemes; light-blue ones fall, whereas pink ones rise. They appear in World 5-4 and the third level of the Gold Mushroom Pack.
