Super Mario Party Jamboree is a game in the Mario Party series released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2024. First announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024, it is the eighteenth (twenty-sixth, including arcade games) installment in the Mario Party series, the thirteenth released on a home console, and the third released for the Nintendo Switch. Serving as a successor to Super Mario Party, albeit with gameplay mostly modelled after Mario Party Superstars, the game features both new and returning boards, in addition to over 110 minigames, and an expansive roster of 22 playable characters, including newcomers Ninji and Pauline.[7] It marks the debut of Kevin Afghani as the voice of Waluigi, as well as being the first game in the Mario Party series to feature him as the voice of Mario, Luigi, and Wario.
A playable demo of the game was available at the Nintendo booth during PAX West 2024 prior to its release, from August 30 to September 2, 2024.[8] A second demo was made available to play in-stores from October 4, 2024.[9]
Game modes
Mario Party
Like with its predecessor, Super Mario Party Jamboree features the traditional Mario Party gameplay as the main mode of the game; players traverse a game board to collect coins in order to purchase Stars. The gameplay is overall more similar to Mario Party Superstars than Super Mario Party, sharing many of the same rules and mechanics, such as the dice rolling between one and ten and the occurrence of Bonus Minigames, where the coins won are doubled. Various new mechanics are introduced, such as Jamboree Buddies, a revamped version of the ally mechanic from Super Mario Party.
In online games with random players, each player's turn has a 30-second time limit.
Pro Rules
Additionally, either Party Rules or Pro Rules can be selected for a game. With Pro Rules on, some mechanics of the game will be adjusted, aiming to create a more competitive game, which includes removing Hidden Blocks and locking Boo's coin steal to 15 coins.
Pro Rules use a locked ruleset, with the only option that the player can have before starting a game is the ability to turn off mini-games help (unavailable in matchmaking) and motion-controlled minigames. The ruleset includes the game lasting for 12 turns only, one Bonus Star that is announced at the start of the game, and minigame selection being set to vote. The only three Bonus Stars that can be revealed are the Happening Star, Slowpoke Star, and Sightseer Star.
Before starting a game, a player can choose one of the following items with which to start the game.
1 - Available only on boards with Skeleton Key gates.
2 - Unavailable on Mario's Rainbow Castle due to the fixed Star position.
Other changes include:
- Lucky Spaces only giving a choice of either a Double Dice or 10 coins, with players having a chance to select what they want instead of a random roulette.
- Unlucky Spaces always giving 7 coins to the last-place player.
- Chance Time Spaces not appearing, instead being changed to a different space.
- Bowser Spaces always taking away a Star.
- If the player does not have a star, Impostor Bowser will take away half of their coins instead.
- The stock of items in an Item Shop now being limited to two and not restocking once all items have been purchased.
- The spaces for where a Star can spawn being visible on the map, marked by a Star Stop Sign.
- When a player purchases a Star, the Star Stop Sign will be removed from the map and a Star will no longer appear at a particular space until all Star Spaces have been used, at which point all Star Spaces will become eligible to host a Star and the cycle repeats, similarly to how the Star Spaces work in Mario Party 3.
- Homestretch no longer having a special event.
- The other events of Homestretch such as the Blue and Red Space increasing in amount earned or lost, respectively, and the duel that occurs when two players land on the same space remain unchanged.
- Players being able to wager a Star during a Duel if both players have one without the requirement of the Super Dueling Glove.

Toad's Item Factory
In Toad's Item Factory, up to four players work together to solve various puzzles to guide a ball across obstacles by moving the Joy-Con in various ways in order to reach the end. There are 30 different levels to play that get increasingly harder, split into 10 areas. In single player mode, two Joy-Cons are used but in multiplayer, each player uses one Joy-Con.

Rhythm Kitchen
Rhythm Kitchen is a rhythm-based mode similar to Sound Stage from Super Mario Party. Like in that mode, players play various rhythm-based minigames back-to-back. All of the minigames in this mode are themed after cooking. Instead of competing for the highest score like in the aforementioned mode, the players must instead work together to get the highest rating from three Yoshi judges.

Bowser Challenges
Bowser Challenges features two online modes focused on large amounts of players playing at once, both prominently featuring Impostor Bowser. These modes can also be played locally, but every player must use their own Nintendo Switch system. Players cannot play as Bowser in either sub-mode, despite the Koopathlon and Bowser Bob-omb Squad modes featuring Impostor Bowser and not the real Bowser as their main antagonist.

Koopathlon
Returning from Mario Party: Star Rush is the Coinathlon mode, now revamped into a new mode called Koopathlon. The core gameplay remains the same, players play single player minigames where they must collect coins to move ahead on the board in a race to finish a certain number of laps. Collecting coins fills up a meter that when filled, provides the player with an item they can use to either benefit themselves or hinder the player in front of them. Compared to the original mode, there are now 20 players racing at once, rather than only four. At the end of every third minigame, a 20-player Bowser-themed Survivathon minigame starts, where Impostor Bowser attacks all 20 players at once. If the player loses this minigame, they are set back 10-40 spaces depending on their current placement; however, if they win, they will be given an item. After the Survivathon minigame ends, the three minigames played before will level up and become more challenging, going from levels 1 through 3. Races can be either 3, 5, or 7 laps long. Whoever is able to finish the race first wins.
While the real Bowser cannot be used in this game mode, it is still possible for players to play the Koopathlon minigames as him in the Minigame Bay.

Bowser Kaboom Squad

Bowser Kaboom Squad is a co-op mode where 8 players are pitted against Impostor Bowser on a city-themed map. In order to fight against Impostor Bowser, players must grab bombs and throw them into cannons found across the map. These bombs are contained in crates that must be broken by attacking them. Once 20 bombs are placed into a cannon, the cannon will fire at Impostor Bowser, causing him to lose health. Impostor Bowser will attack the players as they attempt to stop him. Being defeated by him will cause the player to get trapped in a Bubble. Another player must pop the bubble to revive them. After a certain amount of time, an 8-player co-op minigame is played, similar to the co-op minigames from Super Mario Party. Winning the minigame will reward the team with items that can be used to help defeat Impostor Bowser. Afterwards, another round starts and the cycle continues for 5 rounds. Coins will appear as well. Once 100 are collected, Bonus Time is triggered wherein all bombs become gold and an infinite amount can be put into cannons. Once Bonus Time ends, the golden bombs will be shot at Impostor Bowser, dealing 2x damage. Once Impostor Bowser's health is depleted, a Star appears, which is then used by the players to become invincible and defeat Impostor Bowser in one final stretch where the players must mash to attack Impostor Bowser as he attempts to fight back.

Party-Planner Trek
In this single-player mode, the player freely travels around the new boards as a single character, talking to NPCs, collecting items, and fulfilling requests for them to gain Mini Stars. When completing an NPC's request by submitting an item, the player is rewarded with one Mini Star. Some NPCs offer the player a minigame challenge, rewarding up to three Mini Stars based on the player's standings (placing first, second, or third). Alternatively, for a duel minigame, the player must win the minigame to earn two Mini Stars at once. Clearing an item minigame earns one Mini Star. Once the player collects at least 30 Mini Stars, the yellow Toad will give them a souvenir and direct them to the next map, though before he does so, the sky suddenly turns dark. When this happens, a vortex with the board's boss opens up and sucks the Mini Stars in, forcing the player to defeat the boss to win them back. Any playable character that the player has completed a request for or whose Showdown minigame has been completed can join them in the boss battle. This is the first Mario Party game since Mario Party: The Top 100 to feature Mini Stars as collectibles, and the way they are obtained from minigames is similar to the Minigame Island mode from said game.

Playable
Super Mario Party Jamboree features 22 playable characters, the largest number out of any game in the Mario Party series. In addition to the return of all characters from Mario Party Superstars and most from Super Mario Party (excluding Diddy Kong, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, and Pom Pom), this game marks the first playable appearance in the series of Toad and Toadette since Mario Party: Star Rush and Spike since Mario Party 10. In addition, Ninji and Pauline make their debut as playable characters in the series, with Pauline also making her overall Mario Party debut. Every character also now has their own unique "turn start" jingle.
Only Mario and Luigi are playable in Paratroopa Flight School, and Bowser cannot be played as in either the Koopathlon or Bowser's Kaboom Squad modes, despite Impostor Bowser being established.
To unlock Pauline and Ninji, while viewing the game modes through binoculars in the Balloon, the player character can find both these characters in the background scenery. If the player zooms in on them, they can press the A button, prompting Yellow Toad to invite them to join the party. Pauline is found on an island to the left of Minigame Bay while Ninji is on a hill next to Motion Island.
Jamboree Buddies
10 of the 22 playable characters also appear as Jamboree Buddies, appearing somewhere on the board. By running into a Jamboree Buddy, a Showdown minigame is initiated to recruit them into the winner's team, with the player who initiated the minigame starting with a slight advantage. Tied players will enter a "Tie-Break Dice" event where the Jamboree Buddy goes to the player that rolls the higher number.
Each Jamboree Buddy has a unique ability during board gameplay to help their owner. Additionally, all of them cause board actions to happen twice, such as gaining or losing coins, buying items or Stars, and even Boos and Bowser Spaces. When obtained, the Jamboree Buddy lasts for three turns. Other players may also steal the buddy by passing by the player who currently owns them. If no player reaches the Jamboree Buddy within three turns, they will be removed from the board. Rosalina will not appear as a Jamboree Buddy if minigames with motion controls are turned off due to her Showdown minigame having motion controls. In Free Play, Showdown Minigame Battle and Party-Planner Trek, characters can encounter and recruit a monochrome version of themselves as a Jamboree Buddy (where applicable).

Bosses
Boss battles return for the first time since Mario Party: Star Rush, though there are considerably fewer than in previous games, with only five, one for each new board in the game. In Mario Party mode, bosses can be fought if a player lands on a VS. Space and the roulette chooses their minigame. In Party-Planner Trek, a boss is fought once the player collects 30 Mini Stars, the player will team up with allies they have recruited to defeat the boss within a time limit. If the player does not recruit any allies, they can fight the boss on their own, similar to the bosses in Mario Party DS and Mario Party: Island Tour.

Minigames
- Main article: List of Super Mario Party Jamboree minigames
Super Mario Party Jamboree has 112 minigames, the highest amount of minigames in a Mario Party title to date. Most of the minigames are brand-new, while a few return from past Mario Party games, which, when including the minigames in Mario's Three-peat, consists of one minigame from Mario Party 2, two minigames from Mario Party 5, three minigames from Mario Party and Mario Party 6, and four minigames from Mario Party 4. Apart from the ones in Mario's Three-peat, none of the returning minigames appeared in Mario Party Superstars, though some return from Mario Party: The Top 100.
In addition to the usual minigame categories, Rhythm minigames return from Super Mario Party, all of which are now cooking themed and now have players working together, and 4-player Boss Battle minigames return for the first time since Mario Party: Star Rush, along with the Coin Chaos and Bowser's Gauntlet minigames from that game returning as the Koopathlon and Survivathon minigames, respectively. Two new categories of minigames are introduced, those being Kaboom-Squad minigames, which are similar to the Co-op minigames from Super Mario Party, but with eight characters instead of four, and Showdown minigames, which are lengthier minigames where players compete in a series of challenges in order to gain a Jamboree Buddy. Boss minigames must be unlocked by fighting the boss in either Mario Party or Party-Planner Trek.
Motion-controlled minigames return from Super Mario Party, and require a single Joy-Con to play. However, button-controlled minigames can still be played using a Pro Controller or while using a Nintendo Switch Lite.
Changes to returning features
Boards
- In Mario's Rainbow Castle:
- Yellow Toad and Impostor Bowser replace Toad and Bowser in the tower.
- The number of spaces has been reduced by two.
- As with the original Mario Party boards in Superstars, items can now be used, and there is an item shop in the early part of the board that switches management between Red Koopa Troopa and Kamek when passed by or when Yellow Toad and Impostor Bowser are swapped by an Event Space.
- An exclusive item called the Tower Turner can be obtained from the item shop, which has a chance to swap Yellow Toad and Impostor Bowser.
- The sky now turns dark when Impostor Bowser is in the tower, with the music changing to an electric guitar remix of the song.
- The price of Ztars has been cut in half, and they are now made of cardboard. Also, Impostor Bowser will take all the coins and give players' Ztar(s) when they do not have enough coins, while in Mario Party, Bowser just takes all the player's coins and not give them the Ztar.
- The Fwoosh has been replaced by Lakitu's Cloud, which will now only drop the player when they encounter Impostor Bowser. When they encounter Yellow Toad, it will gently give them a ride back to start.
- Koopa Troopa is no longer at the start of the board.
- In Western Land:
- As with the Mario Party 2 boards in Superstars, Koopa Kid is completely absent.
- The number of spaces has been reduced by ten.
- Koopa Banks are absent.
- The Item Shop in the middle of the board has been moved to before the junction, and another run by Kamek has been added near the first train station.
- Some more junctions have been added, and the one on the right has been flipped around.
- Riding Steamer costs 3 coins instead of 5, however players can now choose to make 2 stops for 6 coins instead, taking them across two stations instead of only one.
- A new item called the Steamer Ticket can be purchased at a ticket shop and can be used to call Steamer at any station.
- Wiggler's hootenannies are now triggered by Event Spaces near the milk shop, and when activated, a cutscene will play showing everyone chatting while having some milk. Players can also choose whether they want to call on one player for ten coins, or everyone for twenty.
- A new passing space has been added to the right of Wiggler's milk saloon where players can obtain a new item called the Steamer Ticket for 5 coins, which can be used when at an empty train station to call Steamer to it. The price of the item increases as more players buy it.
- On both boards:
- Certain Blue Spaces have been replaced by other kinds of spaces.
Minigames
- Within Mario's Three-peat:
- In Leaf Leap, players no longer travel into space as they climb, as the ending of the minigame transitions to Bumper Balls.
- Bumper Balls now takes place in the sky instead of an environment from previous versions, to match the transition between minigames.
- In Shy Guy Says, which is based on the Mario Party 2 version, the Shy Guy is colored yellow instead of red, the Lakitu is missing, and the minigame takes place at night instead of day.
- In Treasure Divers:
- There are now eight chests to collect as opposed to ten.
- How much air the players have left is now shown in a meter similar to Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey, rather than a countdown.
- Platform Peril has been reworked into a coin-collecting minigame, and the platforms are slightly larger.
- In Domination, the intro now shows the Whomps in front before going underground, instead of the camera going in a straight line to the players from behind. There is also no Whomp with a flag carrying the winner at the end.
- In Blame It on the Crane, the Shy Guys return after being replaced by Koopa Troopas in The Top 100, but like the Shy Guy in Shy Guy Says, are colored yellow instead of red. The crane is now able to be moved slightly by the solo player.
- Defuse or Lose is now set during sunset and has a more detailed background, featuring ruins and mountains.
- In Snow Brawl and Jump the Gun, just like with the other Mario Party 6 minigames in The Top 100, only the day variant is present.
- In Granite Getaway, the boulder now immediately rolls towards the players instead of falling down in the intro, the bridge is now outdoors, and the boulder is stopped by a gateway instead of a pit.

Critical reception
On release, Super Mario Party Jamboree received largely positive reviews from critics, becoming the highest scoring entry in the series on Metacritic since the original. The game received significant praise for its selection of boards, with many reviews highlighting improvements in mechanical complexity from previous entries, with some referring to the game as a return to form for the Mario Party series. Many also praised the additions to the traditional Mario Party mode, such as Jamboree Buddies and Pro Rules. Opinions on the other new modes, such as the Koopathalon and Paratroopa Flight School were more mixed, with multiple critics considering them to have little replay value.

- Pinball: The Koopathlon minigame Brick Breaker sees the player character holding a paddle above their head and using it to bounce Koopa Shells towards bricks, reminiscent of the gameplay in the Bonus Stage of this game.
- Super Mario Bros.: The block designs in the Brick Breaker minigame are based on the sprites of Mario, a Goomba, and a Koopa Troopa from this game.
