Mimics are recurring monsters in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest III. As the name suggests, they take the form of a treasure chest.

History

Mario Hoops 3-on-3

Mimics first appear in the Super Mario franchise in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 as an item only in Bloocheep Sea. The chest tries to chomp the player who has the ball by chasing them around the course. Sometimes, Mimics instead spit out many Coins and 10 Coins upon being used.

Fortune Street

In Fortune Street, Mimics appear in the Slurpodrome minigame where they can take the place of a regular treasure chest. If a Slime encounters a Mimic, the Slime is knocked out of the race. A Mimic also appears on the right side of Castle Trodain.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Mimics also make occasional appearances in the downloadable Dragon Quest stage Yggdrasil's Altar in Super Smash Bros.
