Bob Hoskins (October 26, 1942 – ) is an Academy Award-nominated actor. He portrayed the live-action version of Mario seen in the movie Super Mario Bros., which was released in 1993. However, although he played Mario, the actor who played Luigi, John Leguizamo, got a larger role. This was due to Leguizamo being younger and more relatable. When Bob Hoskins was given the role of Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, he didn't know that it was based on a video game. His son knew what the game was, and showed Hoskins the actual game.
