In this event the player must ski down to the bottom of the mountain going through a number of flag gates. If the player misses a gate, it is a 2 second penalty (3 in the DS version). The player that gets to the bottom in the least amount of time wins.

Alpine Skiing is an Event class that appears exclusively in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, featuring downhill skiing events involving passing through gates. In the Wii version, Downhill and Giant Slalom appear in the class, though the similar Alpine Skiing GS event appears in the Skiing class in the Nintendo DS version, and Alpine Skiing Downhill appears as an event in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
