Kalmar is one of the seven Star Spirits in Paper Mario. He is the star spirit designated to the Crystal King to guard in his very own Crystal Palace, found in Chapter 7: A Star Spirit on Ice. His name is a play on "calm," having such a personal and hating fighting and arguments. Furthermore, his name is also shared with the Swedish city Kalmar, a fact possibly taken into consideration in the game's development as he is encountered in a cold, snowy area. When Kalmar is freed, he rewards Mario the Up & Away move. He later appears along with the rest of the Star Spirits in Star Haven when they give Mario the Star Beam.
Kalmar is the guide of the options mode in Mario Party 5 and cameos in Mario Party: The Top 100.
