The Item Space is a rare space that appears on boards in Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3, Mario Party: Island Tour, Mario Party: Star Rush, Mario Party: The Top 100, Super Mario Party, Mario Party Superstars, and Super Mario Party Jamboree
History[edit]
Mario Party 2[edit]
If a player lands on this space in Mario Party 2, the player will play an item minigame for a chance to get an item. The minigame varies on the board being played.
- Roll Out the Barrels - Pirate Land
- Give Me a Brake! - Western Land
- Hammer Slammer - Space Land
- Mallet-Go-Round - Mystery Land
- Coffin Congestion - Horror Land
- Bowser Slots - Bowser Land
Note that no item minigame will be played if it is either the last turn or the player already has an item. In both of these cases, the space will have no effect.
Mario Party 3[edit]
In Mario Party 3, the player either plays an Item minigame or is visited by either Toad or Baby Bowser, who will ask the player a question. The Item minigame that is played whenever a player lands on this space is chosen by a roulette from a list of them, rather than having a single game for each board like in Mario Party 2.
Baby Bowser's questions are "yes-or-no" questions, such as "Do you like to study?". Childish answers generally earn the player more/better items. More mature answers may cause him to say "Don't go around saying stuff just so people will like you!" and give the player nothing.
Toad's questions are choice-oriented, such as "What kind of item would you most like to have?", and offer three possible choices. Greedy answers (depending on the player's ranking) are more likely to cause Toad to leave and give the player nothing. More generous answers generally net the player more/better items, or possibly a rare item.
If the player already has three items in their possession and/or it is the last turn of the game, the space has no effect.
Toad's possible questions can be:
- "If you saw 50 coins lying in the road, what would you do?"
- "If you were to get an item, what kind would you want?"
- "If you were to have Boo get something for you, what would it be?"
- "What kind of item would you like to have?"
Baby Bowser's possible questions can be:
- "Are you a picky eater?" (saying "yes" is childish; saying "no" is mature)
- "Can you be patient for things you really want?" (saying "no" is childish; saying "yes" is mature)
- "Do you always keep your room clean?" (saying "no" is childish; saying "yes" is mature)
- "Do you brush your teeth after every meal?" (saying "no" is childish; saying "yes" is mature)
- "Do you like to study?" (saying "no" is childish; saying "yes" is mature)
- "Do you like to tease?" (saying "yes" is childish; saying "no" is mature)
Mario Party: Island Tour[edit]
After a long absence, the item space reappears in Mario Party: Island Tour and only appears in the Perilous Palace Path board. In this game, the Item Spaces are blue with a ? Block on it. The player who lands on the space gets one of the following items:
- Setback Shell
- Backwards Bill
- Blooper Chopper
- Lightning Score Striker
- Lakitu Leech
- Dash Mushroom
- Golden Dash Mushroom
- Super Star
- Crazy Kamek
- Chaos Kamek
- Custom Dice Block
Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]
Item Spaces also appear in Mario Party: Star Rush, exclusive to the Toad Scramble and Balloon Bash modes. Like in Mario Party: Island Tour, their icon is a ? Block, and they grant the player one of the following items:
- Dash Mushroom
- Golden Dash Mushroom
- Poison Mushroom
- Warp Box
- Duel Glove
- Double Dice Block
- Coinado
- Fling Spring
- Double Card
- Double Star Card
Mario Party: The Top 100[edit]
Item Spaces return in Mario Party: The Top 100, with the same effects as in Mario Party: Star Rush.
Super Mario Party[edit]
In Super Mario Party, the Item Space makes its return to a console Mario Party game after 18 years, operating much like the Mushroom Space back in the first Mario Party. The player hits a roulette block that allows the player to gain one of three possible items. The three possible items differ from space to space, and come from this list:
- Dash Mushroom
- Golden Dash Mushroom
- Poison Mushroom
- Custom Dice Block
- Golden Pipe
- Hidden Block Card
- Coinado
- Fly Guy Ticket
- Ally Phone
- Dueling Glove
The space will trigger the roulette even on the final turn, despite the fact that the player does not get a chance to use the item.
Mario Party Superstars[edit]
Item Spaces make a reappearance in Mario Party Superstars on every board except Peach's Birthday Cake. They look largely the same as in Super Mario Party, being green-colored spaces with a Mushroom depicted on it, but this time, they function more similarly to the ones in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. When the player lands on the space, they are sent to play an item minigame, where they have a chance to gain an item. The items that can be received from the minigames are:
- Mushroom
- Cursed Dice Block
- Double Dice
- Triple Dice
- Skeleton Key
- Warp Block
- Super Warp Block
- Custom Dice Block
- Boo Bell
- Double Star Card
Like in Mario Party 2 and 3, on the final turn of the game, the player will not play an item minigame.
Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]
Item Spaces in Super Mario Party Jamboree function more similarly to Super Mario Party, where a roulette is spun upon landing on one, giving the player a random item. However, when playing the standard Party Rules, there is also a symbol for a minigame within the roulette, where the player will instead play an item minigame, giving the player more control on their item choice. Item minigames are disabled in Pro Rules, but otherwise function identically to how they do normally.[1] The items that can be gained from this space are as follows:[2] [3]
- Creepy Dice Block
- Custom Dice Block
- Double Dice
- Mushroom
- Payday Double Dice
- Shop Hop Box
- Warp Box
- Wiggler Bell
- Boo Bell
- Golden Pipe
- Pipe
- 10-Coin Steal Trap
- Half-Coins Steal Trap
