Cat Wheel first appear in Mount Beanpole, and they can be spun only by Cat Mario via scratching them. When a Cat Wheel is spun, a number of things may happen, such as a platform rising or a secret area opening. Later, a Cat Wheel is used to collect the final Green Star in Chain-Link Charge. Cat Wheels also appear in the Bowser's Fury campaign, where they are used to extend rising pillars in the Lakeside and Wasteland regions, allowing Cat Mario to collect the "Climb to the Shine" and "Spin, Scramble, Shine" Cat Shines, respectively.
