Fire Snakes,[1] also known as Flames,[2] are enemies in Super Mario World. Only eight ever appear, all in the level Outrageous. Fire Snakes are similar to their original counterparts from Super Mario Bros. 3 but differ from being small flames that hop towards Mario or Luigi, leaving smaller fires in their wake. Fire Snakes can be eaten by Yoshi and destroyed with a Cape or a Super Star. Performing a Spin Jump on a Fire Snake does not affect the player character.
