Diddy Kong doing the Popgun Pound
Diddy Kong doing the Popgun Pound

The Popgun Pound[1][2] is one of Diddy Kong's abilities in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (as well as its Nintendo Switch port). It can be performed only when he is controlled independently, which is possible in multiplayer mode or on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze's Hard Mode.

The Popgun Pound is Diddy's version of the ground pound ability that other playable characters use. Diddy fires his Peanut Popguns at the ground, creating tremors. It can destroy blocks, push DK Plates and trapdoors, and stun nearby enemies. The peanuts from this attack bounce forward. Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong do not have this specific ability despite wielding popguns themselves; they are able to only pound the ground without shooting projectiles.

Game manual description[edit]

Shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to shoot Diddy Kong's Peanut Popgun at the ground, and create small tremors. These tremors will stun nearby enemies and allow Diddy Kong to interact with certain objects in the environment, such as DK Plates.
