Hexagon platforms are hexagon-shaped platforms that appear in Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Mario Party 2, and Mario Party: The Top 100.
History
Mario Party Series
Mario Party 2
In this game, hexagon platforms appear in Hexagon Heat. They have sides with a yellow and black stripe pattern, while the colors of the metal-textured surfaces on the hexagon platforms are as follows: yellow on the top left, cyan on the left, blue on the bottom left, pink on the bottom right, green on the right, red on the top right, and white in the middle. When Toad raises a flag, the hexagon platforms that do not have the corresponding color will sink into the lava. They function identically to the Mushroom Platforms in Mushroom Mix-Up, apart from the fact that they stay in lava longer than the Mushroom Platforms do in Mushroom Mix-Up.[1]
Mario Party: The Top 100
Hexagon Heat reappears in this game, bringing the hexagon platforms with it. However, patterns on the top were added to make it easier to identify the correct hexagon platform; their order was also altered as follows: blue with a vertical rectangle on the top left, pink with a square on the left, yellow with a triangle pointing down on the bottom left, red with a horizontal rectangle on the bottom right, cyan with a diamond on the right, green with a triangle pointing up on the top right, and white with a circle in the middle, just like in Mario Party 2.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Hexagon platforms appear in Honeycomb Starway and Honeycomb Skyway. Certain hexagon platforms contain ice or lava, making the platform slippery or even lethal, though most have grey metal surfaces that are safe to walk on. They can either be stationary or appear when the player gets close to them. They can also appear vertically, serving as obstacles blocking the path to the top of the Goal Pole.
If the player somehow starts at the end of the course, three hexagon platforms seemingly containing ice appear, however the two on the outside clip into the middle one. They also kill the player on contact, with orange lava will splash out.[2] This may be because hexagon platforms filled with lava appear in the same spot.
