Diddy Kong doing the Popgun Pound
Diddy Kong doing the Popgun Pound

The Popgun Pound[1][2] is one of Diddy Kong's abilities in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and its Nintendo Switch port. It can only be performed when he is controlled independently, which is possible in multiplayer mode or Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze's Hard Mode.

The move substitutes the ground pound ability seen at the other playable characters. It involves Diddy firing his Peanut Popguns, producing tremors on the ground that have the same effect as a ground pound, therefore allowing him to destroy blocks, push DK Plates and trapdoors or stun nearby enemies while shooting peanuts. Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong do not have this specific ability despite wielding popguns themselves; they are only able to pound the ground without shooting projectiles.

Game manual description

Shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to shoot Diddy Kong's Peanut Popgun at the ground, and create small tremors. These tremors will stun nearby enemies and allow Diddy Kong to interact with certain objects in the environment, such as DK Plates.
