Binding Band
- “Where...ring...go? YOU take ring?!”
- —Knucklotec, Super Mario Odyssey
The Binding Band (originally referred to as the Wedding Ring[1]) is a giant, jeweled ring found in Super Mario Odyssey. It was made by the Tostarenans of the Sand Kingdom and is the kingdom's most cherished artifact.
During the events of the game, the ring is stolen by Bowser and the Broodals as a wedding ring for Princess Peach's forced marriage to the Koopa king. Knucklotec, the guardian deity of the Binding Band, became enraged over the missing ring, causing Tostarena to become covered in ice. Bowser attempts to force the ring through Peach during the wedding, although her struggles as well as Mario's arrival forced Bowser to abandon this strategy. A smaller Binding Band later appears during the fight against Bowser in the Moon Kingdom, where it is used to lock Princess Peach. After Mario defeats Bowser, the Binding Band is returned to the Deepest Underground, where various tourists such as the Style Sisters can be seen looking at it. Mario can then Ground Pound on top of the ring to receive a Power Moon.
A similarly shaped ring can be found inside the drain in Squeaky Clean Sprint in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, although it features a red gem instead. In Mario Kart Tour, this ring much more closely resembles the Binding Band, with a colorless gem as well as added detailing.
