Captain T. Ode[1] is a Toad and an ally of Mario who appears in Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is a ship captain who owns many Sea Charts, and is even rumored to own a submarine called the Marino. His text is written entirely in italics. Through the events of the game, his story is told mainly through the Shangri-Spa Toads. They say that in ancient times, he stole the submarine that was once used as a water taxi to Diamond Island. This vessel became known as the Super Marino. Ode would try to trade the submarine and/or the riches he discovered with it to King Shroomses in exchange for his kingship. Only, Shroomses, being loyal to the Shangri-Spa and enjoying being king, denied the deal. Fearing Shroomses wrath, Ode froze himself using "ancient technology"(revealed to be open freezers) beneath the Scorching Sandpaper Desert. After an unknown amount of time, Ode was discovered by Mario, Olivia, and Professor Toad encased in ice. Using the Fire Vellumental, they melt the ice and free him.
Ode later retrieves his Marino from the Museum and grants Mario access to his vessel and sea charts.

- When he is first discovered, the Fortune Island theme from Paper Mario Color Splash plays, with a slight reduction in instruments.
