Grates are platforms in the Wii game Super Mario Galaxy 2. They only appear in the Flipsville Galaxy's mission "Flip-Flopping in Flipsville". They are used to advance throughout the galaxy, Mario (or Luigi) must Ground Pound them to flip to the other side of the planet. These platforms control Mario's gravity in this galaxy and activating one underneath a Pupdozer is the only way to defeat one. Grates play a major role in the battle with Glamdozer. The player needs to flip underneath her with these four times to defeat her. In the mission "Flipsville's New Digs", all grates are replaced by dirt patches of which the player must use the Spin Drill to defy gravity instead.
