Flutter Wings
Flutter Wings are a power-up in Yoshi's New Island. The power-up is gained like the Invincibility Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land, meaning that it appears only after a Yoshi loses three lives in a level. Mr. Pipe gives a Yoshi this power-up, and it turns the latter character into Winged Yoshi. The power-up allows the Yoshi to hover without losing height, replacing the Flutter Jump.
There is a variation of Flutter Wings called Golden Flutter Wings, which act more like an Invincibility Leaf and are given only when a Yoshi loses another life with the Flutter Wings. If all the levels are completed without the Flutter Wings, there will be a battle with Bowser before Baby Luigi and the stork are saved, as well as a cutscene showing Mr. Pipe's true identity after the credits.
Even if a Yoshi has already completed their respective level, assuming the Yoshi loses three lives in that level, they will still be offered the Flutter Wings by Mr. Pipe.
In Yoshi's Woolly World, if the player sets the difficulty to Mellow Mode, Yoshi will have a permanent set of Flutter Wings for the entirety of the level.
