Naplocks are pig-like golem enemies found in Peach's Castle during the events of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Their name is a play on the words "nap" and "block," which refers to them falling asleep at the start of the battle, and the fact that they are made out of and use blocks in their attacks. Only Bowser can fight these enemies.

When a battle starts, the Naplocks fighting will be asleep unless Bowser started the fight with a punch or his fire breath. While asleep, they shoot bubbles at Bowser. Naplocks shoot out two different kinds of bubbles. One of them contains a Mushroom (Drumstick in the remake) that can heal Bowser if he pops the bubble with his spikes. The other is a green bubble that causes damage and possibly the Sick status. It is avoided by withdrawing into the shell. Naplocks can be awoken by being attacked or if their Alarm Bob-ombs explode, the latter giving them the POW up status. While awake, they attack by spitting out Brick Blocks and throwing them at Bowser. They spit five to seven brick blocks, then charge at Bowser, who can punch the blocks as the enemy approaches, causing them to break. This can be done up to five times, leaving two blocks. Afterwards, the Naplock will throw the remaining blocks into the air and they will fall toward Bowser. He needs to dodge this attack by withdrawing into his shell. If none of the seven blocks were broken, some damage is unavoidable, as Bowser cannot hold his position long enough for all seven to break. Additionally, if Bowser is hit by any of the blocks, he will be hit by every other falling block as well because he is temporarily stunned by each individual block, not giving any time to react to the rest. Additionally, not only does Bowser take damage from each block hitting his head, but they can make him Dizzy. While in the overworld, they shoot bubbles out of their nose that will immediately start the fight if the bubbles touch Bowser.

Mario and Luigi cannot actually fight Naplocks at all in the game, since they cannot fight enemies in Peach's Castle. However, through cheats, it is shown the bros must jump to destroy the blocks before they fall on the bros. heads. Bowser can use the Vacuum Block to inhale a Blitty from Naplocks.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, the number of blocks they spit out and launch at Bowser is changed to eight. If an Alarm Bob-omb is defeated with a counterattack by Bowser while sleeping Naplocks are present, the explosion will make them Dizzy rather than giving them the POW-Up status.

Trivia

  • Naplocks appear to be based off the Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time enemy Snoozorb, another sleepy monster in the final area.
  • In the overworld, the bubbles that follow Bowser are blue, although not containing a mushroom (drumstick in the remake).
  • Naplocks are one of the few enemies to not appear in Bowser Jr.'s Journey.
