“What's this?! You say you need to repair some silly old airship?! Why, I could never part with any of my precious Power Moons! It sounds to me like someone wants to be a snack for my adorable Chain Chompikins!”
Madame Broode, Super Mario Odyssey

Madame Broode is the manager of the Broodals, a group of evil, rabbit-like wedding planners originating from the Moon appearing in Super Mario Odyssey, which are hired by Bowser to plan the wedding between Peach and himself. Madame Broode is a large, female rabbit with hair alternating between turquoise and blue that curls at the ends, wearing a red dress and hat resembling Pauline's concert clothes as well as a pearl necklace on which, in the first encounter, the Multi Moon Mario needs to power the Odyssey is used as a pendant. She is the ruler of Rabbit Ridge in the Dark Side of the Moon, though she is never seen there. She owns and controls a golden pet Big Chain Chomp that she calls "Chain Chompikins", who has its own respective hat similar to Madame Broode's.

Madame Broode shares some similarities to Bowser, such as general design, particularly in the muzzle shape, facial/cranial structure and spiked wristbands, as well as the fact that she uses her face as a figurehead for the Broodals' airship and the RoboBrood, while her minions somewhat invoke the Koopalings. Despite being the Broodals' boss, she is never seen interacting with them.

Mario fighting Madame Broode and Chain Chompikins

In Super Mario Odyssey, Madame Broode is introduced in the Cascade Kingdom. During her fight with Mario, Madame Broode attacks with Chain Chompikins. She allows it to lunge forward, and since she is holding the other end of the chain, she is pulled along. He shifts a bit as Chain Chompkins aims, generally staying out of the way of the Chain Chomp, but they can collide which just staggers the both of them for a second. To defeat Madame Broode, Mario has to capture the Chain Chomp with Cappy. While controlling Chain Chompkins, Madame Broode chases Mario to swipe at him. Getting hit forces Mario out of the Chain Chomp, but she gets tired after a few swipes. She stops to rest then attacks again. The player should run away from her with Left Stick, thus winding up the chain. When the chain is stretched to maximum length, Madame Broode is stuck using both hands to hold the chain, allowing Mario to send Chain Chompikins flying at her by releasing Left Stick to score a hit. Madame Broode will then send Chompikins spinning at Mario, then pull the Chain Chomp back and repeat the pattern. After a while or when she gets hit again, she uses the spin attack. After each hit, they drop sixteen coins; and after the third hit, they are defeated. Both Madame Broode and Chain Chompkins disappear in a cloud of smoke, with Broode leaving behind her Multi Moon.

She is fought a second and final time in the Underground Moon Caverns as the penultimate boss in the Moon Kingdom, where she attacks Mario out of revenge for both her earlier encounter with him and his defeat of all the Broodals. This time, Chain Chompikins wears three top hats, five in the last phase, and Madame Broode attacks more when Mario takes control of the chomp, but the fight is otherwise unchanged. After they are defeated, they leave behind sixteen coins. After this encounter, although she does not appear in Rabbit Ridge, where each of the Broodals is fought, it is possible to fight her again by re-entering the Underground Moon Caverns.

Trivia

  • As the boss of the Broodals, Madame Broode shares several traits with them, but is somewhat different in a number of ways. Unlike them, she has her own battle theme (though it is a remix of the original Broodal boss theme) and the Broodals' intro music does not play at her encounter.
  • When Madame Broode throws Chain Chompikins, it resembles a yo-yo trick called "Walk the Dog," a nod to the fact Chain Chomps are known to act like dogs.
  • She is the only boss in the game not to have an edited post-game rematch. However, she can still be re-fought at any time in the Underground Moon Caverns.
