Template:Character-infobox Kudgel is a large, gray and muscular Kremling and the third boss of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. He carries around a large, spiked wooden club as his weapon. Kudgel is the only boss in the game who does not appear in Donkey Kong Land 2, which is because Kleever is fought as the end boss of the merged world, Krem Cauldron.

Kudgel strongly resembles Klubba, though the relation between the two Kremlings is unknown. Unlike Klubba, Kudgel has gray skin instead of green, and is wearing yellow shorts. In official artwork and the Game Boy Advance remake, Kudgel is wearing red shorts, which are the same as Klubba's.

Kudgel's name is derived from "cudgel", a word which either refers to a weapon or the action of "beating with a club."

Description

Kudgel is fought at the end of Krem Quay in the boss level, Kudgel's Kontest. He attacks Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong by jumping up then trying to land down onto them. If the Kongs are on the ground when Kudgel lands, they are stunned temporarily. After jumping up then landing a few times, Kudgel stomps and a TNT Barrel falls on the arena. The Kongs must quickly pick it up and throw it at Kudgel immediately before or after he lands. If Diddy or Dixie throw the TNT Barrel too close to Kudgel or right when he jumps away, he blocks it with his club. For each hit that he takes, Kudgel moves around faster.

After taking three hits, Kudgel tries another method for landing on the Kongs: by jumping in an arc. After doing so, Kudgel stomps the ground again, causing a TNT Barrel to appear. For each hit that he takes, Kudgel jumps in an arc faster. When the Kongs hit Kudgel with a sixth TNT Barrel, he is defeated and blasts away into the swamp waters.

In the ending's Cast of Characters, Kudgel appears in the Barnacled Bosses category among the other bosses.

Trivia

  • Kudgel's scream is a slowed down, lower-pitched version of Klobber's scream. In the Game Boy Advance version, his sound effect is recycled from Chunky Kong in Donkey Kong 64.
