Firebites[1] are enemies in Donkey Kong Country Returns and its Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports. They are encountered in Perilous Passage only. Firebites are relatives of Buzzbites that behave identically to them, moving quickly along platforms, walls, and ceilings, but the key difference with Firebites is that they are covered in flames and leave behind temporary trails of fire. Contact with a Firebite or its flames takes away a heart from the Kongs' health meter. They cannot be defeated.
