Squid Shots[1][2] are obstacles in Donkey Kong Country Returns and its port. Squid Shots are encountered in Sloppy Sands, Tippy Shippy, and Five Monkey Trial. They are short, cylindrical wooden turret machines with a built-in cannon on each side. They mainly use Squidlys as projectiles, and sometimes Electrasquids. Their firing line is always straight. A Squid Shot may have its own shooting pattern, sometimes depending on its position; some Squid Shots can be found stacked on top of each other. Squid Shots themselves are harmless and can be stood on like solid platforms, but are indestructible. Each Squid Shot shoots left or right depending on the direction a squid’s eyes inside are facing. If it is looking straight, the Squid Shot fires in both directions. The concept artwork in the Extras Gallery depicts a different-looking Squid Shot being manned by a crab.
