Klobbers (also referred to as Kremlings (in a Barrel),) are Kremling enemies that wear a barrel for a disguise. They first appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

History

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Klobbers are common enemies in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. At first, a Klobber looks like an ordinary barrel, which they hide inside of, but when Diddy and Dixie approach a Klobber, it reveals itself and runs after the Kongs, attempting to repeatedly knock into them. As it runs, Klobbers makes a noise similar to the sound of tires screeching. Unlike most other enemies, Klobbers cannot hurt the Kongs on contact, but it can push them into a pit or a different hazard, including an enemy. A Klobber stops moving and retreats into its barrel for a short time if the Kongs either jump onto it or throw a projectile at it. The Kongs can grab the Barrel that the Klobber is hiding in and throw it in the manner of an ordinary barrel, which defeats the Klobber as a result. Klobbers can also be defeated from touching brambles or any other environmental hazard.

Aside from their explosive TNT Barrel counterpart, Kabooms, Klobbers have two additional color variations of their own: yellow ones and gray ones with red eyes. The difference is that each time a yellow Klobber hits Diddy and Dixie, they drop a Banana Bunch, while the gray ones cause them to drop a Red Balloon for each hit; for either type, the Kongs have to quickly recollect the items before they disappear. Both the yellow and gray Klobbers are less common, especially the latter type, and mostly just appear in later K. Rool's Keep levels and Lost World levels. All three Klobber types appear throughout Klobber Karnage. In the end credits, Klobbers all appear under the "Kremling Kuthroats" enemy class.

Though Klobbers do not appear in the sequel, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, a successor to them, Knockas, do appear.

Super Mario-kun

A Klobber in Super Mario-Kun

A Klobber makes a brief cameo in Volume 14 of Super Mario-kun. The last part of the book has a series of comics based on Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, including a 'find the differences' activity between several enemies, including Klobber.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Klobbers return in Donkey Kong Land 2, all acting like the standard green type, since the Game Boy screen does not allow for their distinct properties to be shown. Their titular level, Klobber Karnage, also returns, but has an entirely different layout. Klobbers appear in "The Baddies" category of the end credits.

Donkey Kong 64

Green Klobbers and TNT Bombers also return in Donkey Kong 64. They are uncommon enemies, appearing only in Angry Aztec, Gloomy Galleon, and Crystal Caves. When encountered, Klobbers shout "C'mon" and can damage a Kong by running into them or if the Kong tries to directly attack them. A Klobber can be defeated from either shockwave attack, an orange, or a musical instrument move.

In Donkey Konga 2, a Klobber is among the character artworks that can briefly appear on-screen as the player hits the beats.

DK: Jungle Climber

Klobbers reappear in DK: Jungle Climber, as the only other Kremling enemies other than Kritter. A Klobber's behavior involves it climbing on Pegs and trying to bounce into the Kongs. Only two Klobbers appear, both within a very foggy area of Spooky Woods, and the player has to refer to the bottom screen's map to determine where the Klobbers are on Peg Boards.

General information

Physical appearance

Klobbers are green-skinned, have a light green belly, and black eye (as shown from its purple eyelid). Klobbers have small ears, and each one has a large hoop earring pierced into them. As shown in their official artwork render, Klobbers have a patch on their right cheek. In Donkey Kong 64, Klobbers no longer wear hoop earrings.

In most of their appearances, the barrel worn by Klobbers are missing both the bottom and top lids, although in Donkey Kong 64, the top lid is placed on Klobber's head. As Klobbers move around, they carry their barrel around with them, and only poke out their head and feet. Klobbers stick their feet out from the bottom of the barrel. They have three big toes, each one sporting a large claw-shaped toenail.

• Nintendo Player's Guide: A Green Klobber will try to push you around, but the Yelow Klobber steal bananas, and the Black Klobber steal lives. The Red Klobber hides in TNT Barrels and has a special name: Kaboom.
• Instruction booklet (Game Boy Advance version): This oddball hides in a barrel. When you get close, he pops out and tries to push you around.

Donkey Kong 64

• Prima Guide: These cowardly Kremlings think a barrel will protect them, but barrels can't withstand an Orange's explosion. Some Kremlings hide in TNT Barrel: keep your distance.
