Black is best known for his work in Hollywood comedy films, including Shallow Hal, School of Rock, and Goosebumps. Black's most famous role in animation is that of Po in DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda franchise (alongside Seth Rogen), which incidentally was referenced in GBA Ribbon Road in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with a Kung Fu Lakitu poster. As a musician, he is best known as one half of the comedy rock duo Tenacious D alongside Kyle Gass. In 2018, Black received a placement in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 2021, Black was revealed as the voice of Bowser in Illumination's untitled Mario film scheduled for release in 2023.[1]
