Koins are Kremlings encountered in every level of the games Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. Koins wear buckets on their heads and carry trash can lids with DK Coins attached to them as shields, with their name deriving from the latter. According to the game's credits, Koins belong to the "Kremling Kreeps" enemy class.

There is a Koin in every level of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. In Donkey Kong Land III, a Koin appears in most levels except the underwater ones, which unlike Donkey Kong Country 3s, do not have a cave at the end with the Koin. Instead, the DK Coin itself is hidden somewhere in the level, much like in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2.
Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong can defeat a Koin by using a Steel Barrel; oftentimes, they have to throw the Steel Barrel over him, which will then rebound off a wall and hit Koin in the back, defeating him and giving Dixie and Kiddy a DK Coin. If the Kongs themselves approach a Koin from the front, he will knock them away; if they attempt to jump on him, he will raise his shield and block the jump. Most of the time, Koins are found near the beginning or the end of the level. After the DK Coin is collected, a Koin will be left with just the trash can lid.

Some Koins can only be defeated with the assistance of Bazukas and Switch Barrels. In other levels, the Steel Barrel required to defeat Koin is obtained by bringing an Animal Friend past the No Animal Sign. In these cases, the Kongs only get one chance to defeat Koin; if they fail, they must replay the entire level to get another chance.
In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Koins have a pink variant named Koindozers, which only appear in the level Koindozer Klamber. Unlike Koins, the Koindozers attempt to damage the Kongs by pushing them into the pits with their shield.

Multiple Koins with a dark pink tint, dubbed the Koindozer Klan, are encountered in the level "Koindozer Klamber". Koindozers are much more aggressive than their green brethren, chasing the Kongs and attempting to bash them into pits.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, it is possible to defeat a Koin with a regular or TNT Barrel, which is not possible to do in the original SNES version. However, this can only be done in certain levels.

In Donkey Kong Land III and the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 3, the DK Coin is automatically obtained by defeating Koin. Additionally, in the Game Boy Advance remake, the Kongs can defeat a Koin with a regular barrel or TNT Barrel in certain levels.
