User Page User Box Mess
MarioManiac164 (talk) kind of has an issue with his user page relating to File:Dry Bowser MSOWG.jpg as it covers up the navigation pane to the left. Would it be in MarioWiki's best interest for a sysop like you to edit the userpage by scaling down the image to around 70px width instead of its full width? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:19, 9 February 2017 (EST)

A User's Submissions
Special:ListFiles/Yes man - Yes man (talk)'s submissions kind of bug me. Is there any benefit to submitting a separate image where the background is removed? His latest submission, this is the source. Also he only links them to the gallery pages. I say he should just upload over the previous version so we have less images to keep track of. I've also had problems with these for more examples:
- File:Pokey Sprout.png - File:PokeySproutSMS.png
- File:Mario Kart DS Itembox.png - File:ItemBoxMKDS.png
I tried once to get him to change and nothing came of it. What do you think? What do other sysops think? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:58, 10 February 2017 (EST)
- I can agree to an extent if the isolated version is different than the full picture but I think that Yes man (talk) should try making his own renders instead of using high quality uploads as his base. That way there is enough variation to warrant his separate uploads. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:39, 15 February 2017 (EST)

- I realized as soon as I saw your message that I had made a mistake. My friend is over and he made an account... on my computer. Don't worry, I'm not sockpuppeting. If this is a problem, I suppose his account could be deleted and he could remake it at his house, but that would screw up the one contribution he made. RE: Wormhole (disambiguation)
Well, there is vortex and portal, but I am not sure to include them. Also there are many disambiguation pages with two subjects. Worm hole is tricky because of its conjectural name. Come to think of it, it has the same problem beehive once had. disambig would support my page creation. That's why I went with it. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:44, 7 April 2017 (EDT)

Moved File
I moved a bunch of files, one of them being File:Overworld Theme.OGG to File:Overworld Theme.ogg, but Help:Namespace needs to be edited to accommodate the change. Please fix it? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:21, 28 April 2017 (EDT)
Now more modifications for Help namespace need to be performed because OGG files have been moved using a more appropriate extension:
- Help:Namespace
- Help:License
- Audio clips section will use
*.oga
and video clips section will use*.ogv
.
- Audio clips section will use
For clarification editing Help:Licensing.
There are other audio formats supported by the OGG spec, like Opus, Speex, and FLAC for audio, but those rarely, if at all, get used on the Wiki. More information: [1] For daily MarioWiki editing and uploads, OGA use Vorbis, OGV use Theora or Theora+Vorbis. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:33, 3 May 2017 (EDT)
- Analyzing Xiph's documentation, my recommendations are as accurate as I can make them out to be while keeping things as simple as possible for editors. If you were wondering, a video with just Theora is just an image sequence missing the audio track (like Xiph's very own GIF format). Theora+Vorbis is what you expect if you understand Vorbis only. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:58, 3 May 2017 (EDT)
Looks like Help:Media needs to be updated, not just with File:Example.ogg to File:Example.ogv, but to reflect OGG being a discouraged extension. It should also be stated that some converters still output as OGG regardless of Theora or Vorbis content, but changing the extension will not affect anything. Ways to change the extension before upload (but not limited to):
- Redlink to the file
- Special:Upload when specifying the file name
- Windows Explorer (or equivalent file manager)

- I've created a visual that could supplement the three bulletpoints, however the other admins decide to rework the help page. Would me creating a draft page help in revising Help:Media? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:23, 5 May 2017 (EDT)
Here's a draft: User:Wildgoosespeeder/Help:Media More things needed updating and I corrected every instance. I even moved some sections around for better flow. I even expanded some sections. One section I recommend removal or it be moved to the recommended spot. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:56, 6 May 2017 (EDT)
- Thanks, changes have been made. Conveniently, it also covered the changes I proposed on the admin boards. I did some minor rewriting/reorganising and excluded some unnecessary parts, such as the method for formatting media table, as it's already found on the template page itself. I'll get to updating Help:Image eventually. Mario JC 01:40, 8 May 2017 (EDT)
- Thanks for updating the help page. A few problems with the revisions you made to my draft. Firstly, I purposely chose to remove anything related to inserting text like this

because what if someone wants to view the file page to make an upload fix or something? I know that media link exists. Yes, being able to directly download the media is compromised this way, but media table does this with videos. Also, the MediaWiki software has a box below the HTML5 player to download the file directly anyways if you use the
or
method of linking. I also thought that acceptable content should be the first header instead of being a sub-header of audio and video because that needs to be upfront before anyone gets to work creating media files. I chose to change that header to Uploading and Embedding because audio and video is what the help page is already describing as my change is more descriptive how to work with media files. The only thing I thought was fair enough was the removal of an example formatting of how to use media table. The draft was designed to be thorough and decisive. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:11, 8 May 2017 (EDT)
- Thanks for updating the help page. A few problems with the revisions you made to my draft. Firstly, I purposely chose to remove anything related to inserting text like this
- Yeah, I planned to rename "Audio and video" and move "Acceptable content" once I was done with Help:Image. Anyway, removed the part about "Media:". Mario JC 03:59, 8 May 2017 (EDT)
- I think you were performing the changes as I was typing but I submitted my message before you submitted the better change so, moot point. I'm glad to see a help page in much need of updating because I did find some misleading information as well. Glad I got that corrected. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 04:37, 8 May 2017 (EDT)

Deletion of redirect page "Inklings"
I have noticed that the redirect page Inklings has been deleted, simply for being a plural redirect. Per MarioWiki:Redirects, "Redirects are only unnecessary when (1) they are completely nonsensical, (2) they are too general, and (3) the search function takes the user to the correct page without said redirect."
A plural redirect does not meet the three criteria listed above; the redirect "Inklings" does not constitute "completely nonsensical", it is specific enough, and the search function does not automatically take the user to said page without the redirect.
Furthermore, there are plenty of plural redirects on this wiki. Boos, Goombas, and Bullet Bills are just a few examples of plural redirects that exist here. There is no reason that the redirect page "Inklings" should not exist if there are many redirect pages on this wiki that are plural redirects.

Monty Mole
Sorry about that. I noticed that nobody else on this site posted the locations for the Monty Moles in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, so that's why I did it on my own. When I went to the main page for that game, I noticed that the locations for the Green Pipes, Chuckle Bean pits, and hidden blocks with Hoo Beans were already posted (or at least referenced to other pages where they were posted). So that's why I figured that somebody might as well do the same for Monty Moles in the game too. If it can't be done on the Monty Moles page however, then can it be done at all?

This fiasco with SUPER got me creating my own converter. I need a few things from you (and maybe others). First, please test a program I created, if you have any edition of Windows. You need video files, such as game recordings in an emulator or something. If the video is compatible with FFMPEG, it will work with my GUI. I need you to report any errors or shortcomings. Follow directions how to get FFMPEG setup with my program. Convert the video files and see if it produces a valid OGV. You can open OGVs in VLC Media Player and any web browser that supports the format. This program is how I was able to upload File:SMW Eat Control Coin glitch.ogv. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:49, 8 June 2017 (EDT)
- I don't use emulators, so I used a short game capture video for your program. It seems to have converted to OGV successfully; no issues in the conversion process as far as I can tell, though an exception error does come up if you don't have ffmpeg.exe or the Output folder in the same folder, even if it asks to download/create it. Mario JC 07:52, 8 June 2017 (EDT)
- Sounds normal. The messages only pop-up if the exe and directory don't exist. It's error correcting and more descriptive so that way the program doesn't crash or give an unhandled exception. You can keep the program running and put the exe in the same folder as the program. Click convert again and the conversion should work as expected, putting the output file in the output folder you specified (after you OK any directories that don't exist and want to create it). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:43, 8 June 2017 (EDT)

Does the Spinies have a mouth? Because despite the Goomba Shoe artwork Spiny is shown with a mouth with two teeth. In a model, they do not have teeth, but at least, in their 3D model, do they have a mouth? --77.207.8.120 02:17, 3 July 2017 (EDT)
Mechakoopa and Lemmy Koopa
Why does the Mechakoopa have sharp teeth in Super Mario World, and have a white wind-up key instead of black? (animation sprite) Because in Bowser Battle artwork they lack the teeth and they have a wind up key... I know theres palette limitation but theres black palette in Super Mario World. And sharp teeth arent graphical limitation... Same question for Lemmy, hes supposed to lack teeth, and green, because green with orange exist because hes originally green.
- Mechakoopa.PNG
Green Koopa exist in this game. So why did Nintendo choose the palette of the yellow koopa instead of the green one and why does he have teeth in the sprite? --77.207.8.120 03:24, 3 July 2017 (EDT)
- Maybe it wouldn't look like a windup key if it was coloured black? There have always been minor inconsistencies between the artwork and sprites in older games, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Don't know about Lemmy, though. Mario JC 06:46, 3 July 2017 (EDT)
Translations
Hey, I was just wondering where you got the translations from for the "Names in other languages" section of articles. LuigiMaster123 (talk) 00:07, 4 July 2017 (EDT)
Tense
Sorry to bother you, but I should point out that articles on fictional subjects should use the present tense. Saying that something will happen is future tense. "The guy will do the thing" is future, "the guy does the thing" is present. It's just something to keep in mind as you edit! Hello, I'm Time Turner. 22:28, 5 July 2017 (EDT)
Lemmy Koopa
In the section physical appearance it is said that Lemmy Koopa is yellow due to graphical limitation, but it doesnt because theres a more appropriate pallete (the green Koopa). So could i edit it or not? --77.207.8.120 04:59, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
- In that case, yes, "due to graphical limitations" should be removed. Mario JC 07:51, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
Please protect this page!
Somehow that policy page was also left unprotected. (T|C) 16:39, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
MarioWiki:Personal images is also unprotected (though it used to be before it was moved). --TheFlameChomp (talk) 21:47, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
- And this page as well! (T|C) 22:12, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
- Thanks, guys. I noticed MarioWiki:Signatures wasn't protected either; weird how the protection didn't carry over for some pages. I also like the header idea. Mario JC 03:04, 8 July 2017 (EDT)
Sorry to bother you YET AGAIN, but could you please semiprotect Template:NIWA? Thanks! (T|C) 19:19, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
- It's not a page easily susceptible to vandalism, so I don't see a need to protect it. Like mainspace articles, it doesn't need to be protected if it's not a constant target by vandals. Mario JC 22:09, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
Pidgit artwork
Is this artwork official, or fan recolored?
This is really confusing because it is found on thevideogamearchive.com --77.207.8.120 08:13, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
- Please use your best judgement; the website's description states that it specialises in uploading scans of official game publication artwork, so it must be official. Also, I'm sure the right person to ask would be whoever uploaded the image. Mario JC 08:35, 9 July 2017 (EDT)
The wording to use for international versions' box cover of Mario Power Tennis
Sorry to bother you about this minor thing, but I used the word "montage" to refer to the international versions' box cover having a bunch of Mario characters but that doesn't seem right. Is montage an okay word to be used in this situation? Mr. Kite (talk) 06:42, 10 July 2017 (EDT)
Regional Differences for Mario Games
There`s actually a lot of differences between the japanese and international versions of certain Mario games (ex. Thousand Year Door, Superstar Saga, and Sunshine) that we actually haven`t covered on this website yet, although the trivia list will probably get too long if I try to add all of them. Is it actually possible to make a sub-page for a regional difference list? Mr. Kite (talk) 22:44, 11 July 2017 (EDT)

Promotion CITY!
Also, do you just get promoted to patroller, administrator, etc. by just becoming a well-known authority figure on the Super Mario Wiki, or is there any other way? Just wondering how the promotions worked. 21:18, 12 July 2017 (CDT)
I wanna be an admin
Please give me an admin rights. Music Video 123 (talk) 03:37, 14 July 2017 (EDT)
- Pretty sure that's an illegal request, and certainly an absurd one. You have to earn admin rights, not just wantonly ask for them, like you did with sprite sheets back on The Spriter's Resouce 2 3. Now I'm obviously not an admin myself, but remember, don't make absurd requests. --Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 2:44, 14 July 2017 (CT).

Hi, could you please undelete Mountain Course? I intend to work on it further, and besides, it didn't seem to amount to the reason it was deleted. Thanks! (T|C) 21:07, 17 July 2017 (EDT)
A question about rules
Hello there! I have a question about two rules, or rather what happens when two rules both apply: "If a subject-specific category can be split further [...], use only the most specific category." and "Non-series/game/console/etc.-specific categories need a minimum of five entries, [...]." To use Category:Politicians as an example, a lot of its entries overlap with its subcategory, Category:Mayors. Removing the redundant entries, per the first rule I mentioned, would result in there only being six non-mayor politicians left. This is still technically allowed, but what would happen if, by removing the mayors from the politician category, there were four or less entries left? According to the second rule, the category wouldn't technically be valid, even if there are several articles that actually belong under it; they're just nested in a subcategory. Any discussions about the two categories being merged or otherwise removing one of them can be set aside for the time being. It's a discussion worth having, but I am currently interested in the question that I asked you. Simply put, is a non-series/game/etc. category valid if it has less than five entries, but has a subcategory with more than five entries? Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:51, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
- All right, that helps a lot. Thank you! Hello, I'm Time Turner. 13:22, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

Merge Luigi 64 and Waluigi 64 DS sections in List of rumors and urban legends about Mario
Should we just merge the Luigi 64 and Waluigi 64 DS rumors into one section, since they're so similar and apply to almost the same game? 23:32, 20 July 2017 (EDT)
P.S. And for Jesus' sake, why do you keep undoing my edits? I mean, I know why, and I understand you're an administrator and want the best for the wiki and all, but I'll be honest, it frustrates me when all of the times I try to help the wiki and contribute information and knowledge keep getting reversed all the god-dang time. 23:37, 20 July 2017 (EDT)
Cartoon
As you said the Nintendo Comic System, were licensed by nintendo of America. But the cartoon were licensed by DIC Entertainment, so do that mean that the cartoon is unofficial unlike the Nintendo Comic System? --77.207.8.120 05:41, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- No, Nintendo licensed it, since they own the characters. DIC produced the show. Mario JC 06:04, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- So you mean the character were made by nintendo of Japan, but since the cartoon was made in America, i think it was actually Nintendo of America who worked with the DIC Entertainment. Am i right? --77.207.8.120 06:24, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- No, the characters are owned by Nintendo as a whole. Mario JC 06:27, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- What i was tried to say, who colored the character, IN the episodes of the cartoon. Nintendo of America or Nintendo of Japan who colored, not in the games, i say in the cartoon. --77.207.8.120 06:31, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- What do you mean by coloured? Like who did the art and animation? Again, DIC produced and created the show so it must have been them; Nintendo only licensed their characters to them, meaning they gave them permission to use them. Mario JC 06:45, 26 July 2017 (EDT)
- Ok ive got it. --77.207.8.120 06:46, 26 July 2017 (EDT)

Super Paper Mario edit
How is that Mario Party reference not a reference? I don't understand that. Please explain. Lcrossmk8 (talk) 22:48, 26 July 2017 (EDT)

RE:DKCTF Image
So do all DKCTF screenshots that I have uploaded lately go against the policy? I used the Wii U Image Share service to take them, and they were originally jpg images. Should every single one be deleted and recaptured in jpg, or can they just be converted back to their original format? -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
- Okay, then... there's a grand total of about 350 pictures that were originally jpg (counted from when I started uploading in PNG format), so I'm gonna need a wee bit of help :)
- I used Photoshop to simply save them as PNGs. After you reply to this message, I will start saving the existing images, then I will convert them back to JPEG in Photoshop, as I am not willing to download any other conversion software. Problem is, the size of the converted JPEG file is bigger than that of the raw JPEG file,
and I have deleted almost all original images. I messed up so badly, sorry for being so stupid...Hold on, I discovered they were just lurking in the Recycle Bin. Not all of them, but most; I don't have the pictures from here anymore. As for level and Capsule Toy Machine-related images, they're up and about! -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE

Just to clarify policy (because I proposed it and it passed), the conversion Super Radio (talk) did shouldn't have happened in the first place. It was so much effort with little payoff. The policy applies to both JPEGs that weren't uploaded to Super Mario Wiki yet as well as already uploaded JPEGs being converted to PNG. It was meant to defend against uploads like File:Thwomp Wario's Woods.png, originally done by Xaq (talk), but eventually redone by me. Another protection is fan transparency on JPEGs of artwork, because JPEGs are incapable of transparency. Editors should just wait to see if a lossless alternative turns up. This shouldn't be confused with recaptures, which I do and doesn't violate the policy in any way. A lot of confusion stems from what the difference is between conversion and replacing and how JPEG and PNG formats work. If that needs to be clarified, just ask me about it. Editing this wiki has gotten me ridiculously experienced with image formats. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:39, 30 July 2017 (EDT)
- Yes, yes, I know! My actions were driven by the thought that someone would apply PNG Monstrous on the images and that would make them more compact. I had forgotten the image policy, though I had read it beforehand. So my decision to convert the pictures to PNG after taking them was idiotic to put it shortly. Sorry for that. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE
Italics
You claimed on an anon's talk page that italics shouldn't be used for Kodansha manga. MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Italicizing titles contradicts this, saying print publications should be. This is done with Nintendo Power, so I don't see why Kodansha should be different. 12:08, 1 August 2017 (EDT)
Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up! 01:11, 2 August 2017 (EDT)

Hi, could you please move Watch to Watch (enemy and also move Watch (Mario's Time Machine) to Watch? I'd do it myself, but I'm currently stuck with a mobile device and can't move the pages myself. Thanks! (T|C) 10:54, 8 August 2017 (EDT) (T|C) 10:54, 8 August 2017 (EDT)
