Robert William "Bob" Hoskins, Jr. (born October 26, 1942 in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk – died April 29, 2014) was an Academy Award-nominated English actor. He portrayed the live-action version of Mario seen in the movie Super Mario Bros., which was released in 1993. Despite portraying Mario, he was not the lead protagonist of the film. This role was filled by his brother Luigi, portrayed by John Leguizamo. He retired from acting in 2012 due to Parkinson's Disease and died of pneumonia on April 29, 2014, at the age of 71.
