It has been requested that this article be rewritten and expanded to include more information.
Berries (also referred to as Apples[1]) are fruit found in Dinosaur Land in Super Mario World. Yoshis can eat them for the value of one coin, however no points are given when a fruit is eaten.
Berries also appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where they serve the same role.
Berries reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Yoshi can eat these to earn Star Bits. If ten berries are eaten, one life will be given.
Types of Berries
Red Berries
If Yoshi eats enough red berries, he will lay an egg containing a power-up.
Pink Berries
Pink berries require a much lower amount of berries to be eaten before getting their prize: a Cloud that floats around throwing out coins.
Green Berries
If Yoshi eats a green berry (which appear only in the Special World's Funky level), 20 seconds are added to the in-game timer, giving the player more time to reach the goal before the timer runs out.
Other Berries
In Paper Mario, there are several Berry species in Flower Fields. Red Berries, Blue Berries, Yellow Berries, Bubble Berries, and Crystal Berries all appear in the game.
