Blimp Fruits are a special type of fruit appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. These fruit play a key role in the Tall Trunk Galaxy. Blimp Fruit look like light-blue Berries with a small stem. When Yoshi consumes this fruit, he changes his green color to Light Blue and inflates (taking the form of Blimp Yoshi), similar to Balloon Mario's power-up. After that, Yoshi can propel himself by exhaling the air inside him or hold the A button to hover in the same place. However, like Bee Mario, a meter appears to show how long Yoshi can stay afloat. Once the meter empties, Yoshi becomes green again.
Yoshi's flutter jump is pretty good for getting a little extra height out for a hop, but when Yoshi gobbles a blue Blimp Fruit, he really takes to the skies. After  eating a Blimp Fruit, Yoshi blows up like a balloon and immediately starts rising into the air. As Yoshi flies, though, he expends that air. He will not just keep going up forever. Use the small meter next to Yoshi to see how much longer Yoshi will float straight up. When the meter is empty, Yoshi deflates and drops right back down , so try to steer over a ledge so he doesn't fall into space.

Yoshi can also hover after eating a Blimp Fruit . Just hold down the A Button and Yoshi no longer flies upward, but Yoshi does keep expelling the air. Hovering is a good way to avoid accidentally floating into a hazard, like a spiked ball or an enemy. If Yoshi does bump into something dangerous, he immediately releases all air and falls straight down.
While ballooning from a Blimp Fruit, Yoshi cannot lick up anything.

Mario and Yoshi near a Blimp Fruit.
