“Now, just hang on there. We can't get over there just yet. We need more juice from the Power Star icon from Super Mario Galaxy 2. Power Stars!”
Lubba, Super Mario Galaxy 2

A Star Barrier[1] is an object appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Star Barriers appear as blockades on the World Map, preventing Starship Mario from moving beyond them. The only way to get past them is to have the required number of Power Stars, which is different for every Star Barrier. Once the Power Star requirements are met, the Star Barrier starts to shine. When Starship Mario goes over it in this state, the Star Barrier permanently flattens to the same size as the other spots on the World Map, and the Star Barrier reveals all of the paths connected to it. The Star Barriers and their requirements are as follows:

Location Stars Required Unlocks
World 1 3 Spin-Dig Galaxy and the Flip-Swap Galaxy Hungry Luma
7 Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla
World 2 16 Bowser's Lava Lair
World 3 28 Bowser Jr.'s Fearsome Fleet
World 4 40 Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet
World 5 55 Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker
World 6 60 Throwback Galaxy
65 Battle Belt Galaxy
70 Bowser's Galaxy Generator
World S 75 Rolling Coaster Galaxy
80 Twisty Trials Galaxy
90 Stone Cyclone Galaxy
100 Boss Blitz Galaxy
110 The Flip-Out Galaxy Hungry Luma
