(→‎Names in other languages: looking over the localized names of Stepping Over the Gears and Lanterns on the Gear Steps, it appears that Eastern countries call these Gear Steps, but most Western ones call them just gears... except Dutch and Italian, which somehow don't use their word for "gear" at all)

First appearance Super Mario Odyssey (2017)

Gears, also referred to as gear steps, are solid objects that appear only in the sub-area with the Power Moon for the sidequests Stepping Over the Gears and Lanterns on the Gear Steps in the Luncheon Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. They are platforms with four blades that rotate counterclockwise at the same time, though they stop for a brief moment at regular intervals. Gears appear with other gears above them, connected by a pole, which extends to lava below.

Two sets of gears appear in this sub-area: one with two gears and another one with three gears.
