Bungee Piranhas[1][2] are purple Piranha Plants with a long stem as a bungee cord first appearing in Yoshi's Island DS. They hang on ceilings and wait for a Yoshi to come; they make a chomping sound to indicate their presence. When a Yoshi approaches, they lunge down and grab a Yoshi, causing the Yoshi to leave their eggs behind. Their stems also have spikes on it, so touching it will harm the Yoshi. A boss version called the Big Bungee Piranha appears in World 2's Castle, Big Bungee Piranha's Lair. They appear in The Cave That Never Ends, Let There Be Light!, Yoshi on Stilts, Yikes! Boiling Hot!, Big Bungee Piranha's Lair, Moving Statues, Standing Statues, and Superhard Acrobatics!.
Bungee Piranhas reappear in Yoshi's Crafted World and behave the same way they did in Yoshi's Island DS. However, their stems are no longer spiky and can be passed through by Yoshi. They also have thin spikes on their heads, although this is more of a visual difference. Bungee Piranhas only appear in Jumping to Victory, where they try to blend in with harmless (regular) Piranha Plant-colored Party Balls.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bungee Piranhas are mentioned briefly by Viridi during Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.
The color scheme of Bungee Piranhas resembles the Spiny Piranha Plants from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, and the Piranha Creepers from Super Mario 3D World.
