Flip the Chimp is a 4-Player and Duel minigame that is found in Mario Party 8.

Introduction

The camera moves around to show a Ferris wheel ridden by Goombas and Koopa Troopas and a flying hot air balloon in the background. The Ground Theme from Super Mario Bros. also plays but in carnival style. The camera then moves down to show a Ukiki hanging on a tree. A coconut falls on the Ukiki's head, making him scream and move down the tree. After that, the screen splits into four (two in the Duel version) sections, each containing a Ukiki hanging on a tree as well as a player standing beside it, and the minigame starts.

Gameplay

The players must hold the Wii Remote in a vertical position to play this minigame. The players control the Ukikis that are climbing the trees to the finish line marked by a red pennant banner. Coconuts fall down at either the left or the right side of the tree the Ukiki is climbing. The players must avoid them by switching their Ukikis to the other side of the trees. If a coconut hits a Ukiki's head, he moves forcefully down the tree, wasting some time to reach the finish line. The player who has their Ukiki reach the finish line first wins. It is possible to have multiple players win this minigame, and it is possible to tie in the Duel variant. If five minutes pass, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending

The Ukiki comes down, and Ukikis cheer as winners do their winning animations. In the Duel variant, if both players make their Ukikis reach the finish line, the camera cuts straight to the players, who face the screen and do their losing animations. The latter also happens in the event of a tie in the 4-Player version (when all players' Ukikis do not reach the top in five minutes).

Trivia

• There is a Koopa Troopa offscreen in the minigame on the Ferris wheel that is not in a cart, revealing that its underbody is not modeled, though this Koopa cannot be seen normally in the game.
