Players make a sound each time they do a particular action, occurring if the solo player sets or shoots an arrow or the team players when moving. If the team wins, any remaining members appear from behind the brick wall, holding their respective panels, and do their victory animation as the solo player does their losing animation.
The main objective for the player with the bow and arrow is to shoot down the characters' panels. Once the solo player has knocked down all three players' pictures before the thirty seconds are over, they win. They can also earn some extra coins by hitting the other pictures thrown in as well. The Toad panel gives them one coin, the Boo panel pictures give them two coins, and the Baby Bowser panel give them three coins. The solo player has unlimited arrows, yet they have thirty seconds to complete the task in order to win.

The three players main objective is to dodge to the arrows shot by the solo character. In order for them to win, at least one of them will need to remain standing by the end of the thirty seconds. Each panel moves at a slow pace, yet it is enough to avoid an arrow being shot directly at them. The non-playable panels though can block their path, causing them to be a still target for the solo character.
Furthermore, Mario Party Superstars includes the minigame in Stage 1 and Stage 4 of the Trio Challenge in Mt. Minigames. In Stage 1, human players compete against one CPU opponent at Normal difficulty, and the rank requirements are 81–90 seconds for Rank A; 61–80 seconds for Rank B; 41–60 seconds for Rank C; and 30–40 for Rank D. Stage 4 pits a solo human player against three CPU opponents at Normal difficulty, and the rank requirements are different: Rank A for hitting all targets with more than 11 seconds left; Rank B by winning with over 11 seconds left but with targets remaining; Rank C with 5–10 seconds left; and Rank D for 1–4 seconds left.

In the Mini-Game Coaster, the human player plays against the team of three.

Mario Party Superstars:

Archer-ival is a 1-vs-3 minigame in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party Superstars. Its name is a pun on the term "archrival."

Overview[edit]

The solo player has a bow and arrow and uses it to try and hit the three team players, each trapped in slow-moving panels, while the other side tries to avoid the arrows.[1] The solo player can earn extra coins by also hitting the other pictures: one coin from the Boo panel, two from the Toad panel, and three from the Baby Bowser panel. The panels can block the path, making them a still target for the solo player. The solo player wins if they remove all three opponents' pictures. The team players win if at least one of them remains for 30 seconds. In Mini-Game Coaster, the human player is always on the solo side, and the minigame can be bought from Woody for 150 coins.

Archer-ival has differences in Mario Party Superstars.[2] Toad is replaced by Goomba, and Baby Bowser is replaced by Bowser Jr. The panels no longer provide additional coins. Players make a sound each time they do a particular action, occurring if the solo player sets or shoots an arrow or the team players when moving. If the team wins, any remaining members appear from behind the brick wall, holding their respective panels, and do their victory animation as the solo player does their losing animation.
