Escalators[1] are platforms in some of the the castles of Super Mario World. They automatically move Mario or Luigi along with it when they stand on it, just like a Conveyor Belt, but it is on a sloped surface and can be slid down.
There are two kinds of escalators: northeast-conveying and southwest-conveying. The former variety is found in the first room of #2 Morton's Castle and the crushing ceiling room of #4 Ludwig's Castle, while the latter is found in the second room of #7 Larry's Castle. Each end of an escalator has a motor on it, similar to the endpoints of rails.
